So let's compare that against the obvious competition, which is, of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":36.64,"end_s":42.96,"text":"course, a sea turtle. Well, no, but it felt that way a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":40.96,"end_s":48.0,"text":"little bit because AMD's Richland is really in a class of its own when it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":44.559,"end_s":49.8,"text":"comes to a lowcost value gaming","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":48.0,"end_s":56.079,"text":"platform. So AMD sort of released this Richland","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":53.52,"end_s":61.52,"text":"series of APUs. They're on the same FM2 socket as the older APUs. So you don't","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":59.76,"end_s":66.24,"text":"have to really upgrade your hardware. You can just get um a BIOS update for","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":64.559,"end_s":70.88,"text":"your board or whatever else and you can basically drop in a Richland. Also AMD","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":68.799,"end_s":75.28,"text":"has told me that we are going to be looking at FM2 for the next generation","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":73.28,"end_s":78.479,"text":"of APUs as well. So they haven't really changed the platform. In fact, they","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":76.96,"end_s":83.52,"text":"haven't really changed the architecture at all. So, it's mostly just a small","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":80.479,"end_s":86.799,"text":"speed bump over the last generation 5000","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":83.52,"end_s":88.479,"text":"series, like the 5800K APU. So, we took the lowest cost Haswell we could find and took a few","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":94.96,"end_s":101.36,"text":"mainstream games that you might want to play on a system that doesn't have a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":99.04,"end_s":105.119,"text":"dedicated graphics card and we ran them head-to-head. Now, with that in mind, we","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":103.439,"end_s":109.92,"text":"didn't do any compute performance benchmarking because we already know the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":107.28,"end_s":114.64,"text":"Intel chip is going to wipe the floor with the AMD one. We're talking about a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":112.0,"end_s":119.439,"text":"very specific usage case here that is not focused on CPU. So, if you want","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":116.64,"end_s":125.32,"text":"better CPU performance, go with a Haswell. If you want better GPU","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":121.6,"end_s":130.08,"text":"performance, well, stay tuned because in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":125.32,"end_s":132.16,"text":"Skyrim, our 4430, which is an i5 4430,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":130.08,"end_s":137.44,"text":"Intel doesn't have an i3 yet. They're launching only the higher end of their","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":134.08,"end_s":142.48,"text":"Haswell CPUs, got beat by our 58 or","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":137.44,"end_s":145.12,"text":"rather 6800 K by a whopping 10 frames","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":142.48,"end_s":149.68,"text":"per second, 24 frames per second average on Richland versus 15. Now, with that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":147.28,"end_s":154.08,"text":"said, the 5800K, the last gen one, was only one FPS behind this one. So, you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":151.76,"end_s":158.4,"text":"can really see it's a small clock bump and not really anything revolutionary in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":156.16,"end_s":165.319,"text":"terms of performance. Our next game up was Dirt 3. And in this one, Richland","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":161.04,"end_s":168.4,"text":"outperformed Intel Solution by about","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":165.319,"end_s":172.879,"text":"75%. That is fantastic. All the way from","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":168.4,"end_s":174.8,"text":"22 FPS or so to 37 FPS going for a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":172.879,"end_s":180.16,"text":"different platform. Bearing in mind this one costs about $30 less than the Intel","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":177.68,"end_s":185.68,"text":"solution. Finally, in Starcraft 2, which is a very sort of mainstreamy type","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":182.48,"end_s":187.44,"text":"title, Richland wins by about 25% versus","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":185.68,"end_s":191.68,"text":"the Haswell GPU, and we see it once again very close to the 5800K. So, was","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":190.0,"end_s":196.239,"text":"this the most exhaustive test of benchmarks that we could have possibly","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":193.28,"end_s":201.36,"text":"run? No. Was this pretty much all you need to know about Richland? I would say","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":198.319,"end_s":203.04,"text":"yes. AMD's delivered a new chip that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":201.36,"end_s":206.239,"text":"goes on their existing platform that you don't need a new board for.
