Why did you decide to become a certified drone driver? Um, yeah, I just like spend time studying up different stuff There's like a bunch of nice drone youtubers shout out to uh, uh don joist from don drones on he's a canadian drone pilot and He's a stand-up guy uh Just a all-around good good guy good good guy and good pilot and he has a whole bunch of resources for free on youtube And I didn't take a single class I just watched his stuff and then I flew in areas I could fly. So what's the issue now? So what's happening is that it's just uh It's let me know that there's an aircraft in the area and usually in our area. There's sometimes low flying aircraft so just want to make sure that Uh, I'm not flying when it's flying essentially It's good etiquette when you have an aircraft warning on your drone app or whatever Is telling you your flight system is telling you if you're a drone pilot just land Don't fly it next to a plane. If you had any recommendations for anyone who wants to take up Uh flying drones, we'll just say to them. Um, yeah, take a look at What kind of content you want to capture first of all? Uh, you can then it'll depend that it'll kind of make you choose the drone that you want And then from there you can find out some look up some useful youtubers In drone, well, I said John drones on Don Joyce. He's a great youtuber Canadian and that matters because When you fly a drone, it applies to what country you're in uh, American air four of their airspace laws doesn't really apply to Canadian airspace stuff when it comes to drones Totally different exams. So this has Mirrors to tell you where the keys are, but they're also flip. So if you're going up, you're like, that's not right Uh, so I'm typing hello to sammy and this is how long it's taking me. I'm using mirrors Red Rum Done We're taking some more of the 3d printed metal parts and putting them through our centering machine from rapedia This is a vacuum furnace from rapedia It takes the inside chamber of year and brings it down to almost a full vacuum And then it fills the rest of what's left there with an inert gas called argon And then takes the entire system up to around 1700 degrees Celsius. Yeah, it's uh, really toasty And it does that in a very controlled way to take our parts And get them all to not melt but kind of stick together More thoroughly and it's called sintering the pieces together It also burns off a couple of the binding agents that are used Then after that it brings it back down to room temperature brings the atmospheric pressure back up And then you can take the parts out and you get your actual steel parts We have a couple of printed parts here. We have another larger version of the screwdriver handle We have a little tiny ball peen hammer A couple of end caps and then a couple of key caps as well And just for a bit of scale, no not that one just for a bit of scale That's the size of a regular screwdriver handle Note how this one is quite a bit longer That just comes from the shrinkage of the material as it's sintered That's both some material burning off and also the atoms inside it getting closer together and bonding Yeah, so when it comes out it will be essentially this size and I have measured previous iterations and It's a lot more accurate than I would have expected So this is my first prototype of a steel screwdriver. This is the kind of piece you'd get after doing a little bit of post finishing after it's sintered So it actually feels like a metal and it's strong and sturdy unlike the green parts which are almost more like a clay So we have our individual pieces in at the temperatures inside the furnace Most materials are not strong enough to be able to support the weight of things So this is a ceramic separator and all of this gray is solid graphite Because it still is strong enough to support things at 1700 degrees or so So we load everything up And then we have to put it into the furnace one other note here This ceramic spacer serves two purposes one it lets gases and other things escape through the bottom of the parts But it also acts as a separator between the steel pieces and the graphite if they touch The the carbon will get pulled into the steel and essentially turn it into like um like a pig iron Which is a type of a type of metal and its melting point is way lower So it will essentially turn into a puddle of molten steel at the bottom of the furnace Which is very bad This is fun because it kind of feels like opening up a sub-rein Open and then this can either stay put or get pushed back in Send me the model i'm gonna make sure it prints This is what we call the the um, what's the word? Spaghetti that you can't eat this is the forbidden spaghetti. So now this goes in There are some guides on the inside once you're past the first little bit that kind of bump it up into the middle And then we open it up So this is an interesting phenomenon where something can get really really hot but not burn or oxidize So in here, this is actually the hottest part. This section is going to be around that 700 1700 degrees But as it gets further out, it's actually quite a bit cooler This is an area where you can get some atmosphere and some oxygen which will generally cause this discoloration Whereas in here, there isn't any oxygen so it can't discolor All right So we have a couple of different Profiles here for this particular one. We're using the 316 paste and this is the rapid Yeah, haha, funny center So we hit it So this is that next you can see the cycle timer here. It's about 13 hours So it's not fast and that's going to be a mix of the the temperature profiles to center correctly as well as the time to Pull a vacuum and also the time to Let the furnace get back to a normal temperature So this time will capture all of that 13 hours Like the magic of movie editing Movie magic of editing 13 hours then And by that I mean a weekend After a little bit more than a weekend the furnace has done its cycle So I'm gonna go in Okay I'm coming In go And unlock the door Okay Touch screens are sort of there we go there. Oh, so it's now pressure equalizing so it was still a vacuum in here And it's going for about another two minutes Give another turn open up All right, so those are our parts it does still look like there's some discoloration So this is something I've been working with rupitia on a little bit for our printer in particular It seems like somewhere in the line where the argon comes in there might be a little bit of a leak And that can that causes this discoloration. It's essentially oxidization of the metal as it's sintering Though it's stainless steel when it's really really hot it can still Rust my classical term or oxidizes a slightly better term So this is what you expect to see in terms of coloration where it's all very stainless steel color And up in the top and at the bottom you can see this yellowing into red into blue. That's the oxidization of These I am going to polish Just to get rid of this oxide layer And also get a little bit of Dimensional tweaking that I may have to do on some of them and then we'll be able to see the final result.
