today is the day that we get new Wi-Fi from ubiquity baby it's time to get faster Wi-Fi introducing I mean I'm a little late to the party on this I think these have been out for like a month but I don't care this is the ubiquity E7 Enterprise 7 Wi-Fi 7 holy crap access point and this is supposed to be the gosh darn fastest dang thing in the whole dang universe Ah that's Wi-Fi I'm gonna get out ahead on this one and say ubiquity I love you guys I I don't like the new naming scheme you had the UniFi 6 Enterprise which was very easy to understand and then for this new generation you're like this is the E7 it's not the Enterprise 7 it's the E7 well why does it say Enterprise right there huh they keep changing their Namy schemes like with every product launch and I honestly it's just like come on kid figure out what you're gonna do if you're GNA be like apple be like apple and just just leave it there okay there's our access point there look at that it's a square it's still the same like soft touch white plastic so if you're installing these access points please God leave the plastic on until you're actually done cuz once you get fingerprints on this stuff that does not come off I'm honestly I'm going to put this back on here so I don't just murder this thing you've got the mount with the billion different holes that come in these things for all the different things that you can mount it to you might notice that this looks like the the same as their other access points despite this becoming a square uh it's the same Mount so if you were going to you know you have hundreds of APs already deployed with these mounts you don't have to worry about changing this out you can just pop it off and then pop the new square ones on assuming you like spending money there's the like backing ring thing I've used these for drop sealing mounting these APS before and then speaking of drop seiling here is the drop ceiling mount thing from what I understand the reason for the change in shape is mostly due to the fact that they just have a lot more heat to dissipate this Wireless a point also has one Ethernet Jack it has two Ethernet Jacks that's pretty cool right and not only does it have two Ethernet Jacks it has two Ethernet Jacks for like a good reason so you have your main 10 gabit I'm not joking this has a 10 gbit input that's PoE+ plus and then you have a separate gigabit input that's also PoE Plus+ that's meant for high availability so if you a switch go down or you know a whole network go down or whatever you can have the second Port plugged into a different setup and then your APS don't go down they're trying to have a product that's actually like Enterprise here now I did ask you can't use this as a bridge port at least not right now if you're curious how the mount works you screw it in and then assuming Pretend This is a wall you know you kind of twist it and then it's locked in there is the little lock tool so you just poke that in the hole it pushes the lock up and it comes off easy peasy well naturally since this is a 10 gbit PoE access point when you got to start asking the question well ubiquity you don't have a 10 gigb PoE switch yeah they do man this is a double unboxing I like this this is the switch Enterprise campus 24 PoE I did a ShortCircuit on their campus aggregation which is a 100 Gig capable switch I mentioned in the ShortCircuit I think that these switches were coming and come they have this is a large network switch and I I can understand why it's got 10 gabit RJ45 10 gig we're talking here that's PoE but it's not just PoE+ plus like this AP needs because there are other APS in this lineup it's not an access point but a switch the flex 2.5 gig PoE it's a 9ish port switch it has eight 2.5 gig PoE Plus+ outputs and then it has a 10 gig PoE Plus+ plus input so that switch can get 90 watts of PoE from this switch and then that gives it a 76 watt PoE output budget which means you can run one of these chunking APS that does like 50 watts of power uh off of it and then also have other devices like a couple security cameras or something like that now let's look at this switch this this bad girl right here my friends every single goddamn port on this switch is PoE+ Plus+ do the math that's a lot of power technically you can't do 90 Watts on all the ports at the same time because uh you know you did the math and that doesn't actually make sense but in theory this switch can do 1,50 watts of PoE assuming you have the correct power supplies it doesn't come with those out of the box although let's be honest that's a lot of PoE and that might might be kind of hard to do that now the port specifically if you look over here there are 8 2.5 gig RJ45 PoE Plus+ plus ports and then you have 16 10 gbit RJ45 PoE plus Plus+ plus plus plus plus just three pluses ports over here and then of course 225 gig ports which is a nice touch now this switch is designed to be used with their Enterprise campus aggregation where you would have two of those 100 Gig switches and then you would down link from those two redundant switches via M leg to this switch so that you have a redundant link to this and this is what you would run your APS off of um it's it's pretty big it's got those redundant power supplies which are really nice like we talked about and then it also has I'm loving these new ubiquity switches because man they really they really are starting to take the whole Enterprise thing a little bit more seriously they have hot swap fans we've got two nicely sleeved power cables we've got the infamous ubiquity little rack ear things and then a bunch of screws and then the rails let's check these out they're nice get the nice clicky action no complaints there the only thing I would love to see with these is little like Tabby Boys on the Side here so you could just click this in and you didn't have to screw it in but you know that's that's pretty minor I think I didn't realize this is an ether lighting switch too that's cool you see it's it's freaking RGB man that's so cool for the uninitiated this is what ubiquity calls ether lighting instead of just like boring blinking uh support LEDs they put RGB LEDs in the back it doesn't show up that great with some cables but they have special fancy cables that are frosted and they really show the color yo you see that damn the whole thing me that we get to play around with let's talk the specs of this thing on the 2.4 GHz band it's 2x2 5 GHz band 4x4 6 GHz band also 4x4 4 it's rated for up to 43 freaking watts of power consumption and 1,000 connected devices not to mention 2,000 ft of coverage off of 1 AP at least I guess in ideal circumstances let's check out what it looks like in the ubiquity controller now for the any initiated any ubiquity devices like these you need to have some form of controller what there settings are there in here here's ether lighting look at that oh it still is like your network or your speed and you can color it based on that there still isn't an option for you know painting the ports a certain color or um setting it by device type automatically all you've got is network and speed and by Network that would be like your VLAN but I would really like to see a device mode and then other than that you've got your screen adjustments you can rotate them night mode I guess that just leaves us with the access point and there are actually some new fun things in here here uh like their U7 lineup this access point has a dedicated scanning radio so you can do the cool water flaw Spectrum analysis uh and see kind of like a waveform of the other APS in the area this is really sick if you have like interference issues that you're trying to diagnose CU you get a live view of the spectrum uh or if you're just trying to set up your APS uh initially you can use this to see which channels are the least congested and naturally right here you can see the 2.4 GHz absolute dumpster fire there's stuff all over the place I mean there's an AP like pretty much directly above me but if we go to 5 GHz looks a lot cleaner but what you might not be familiar with is 6 GHz uh this was the big change with Wi-Fi 6E and then now also on Wi-Fi 7 it's a massive frequency range of additional Wi-Fi spectrum that we can broadcast Wi-Fi on now if you live in an apartment you might have run into interference issues or you might have bought a Wi-Fi access access point and expect at a certain speed and you're not getting it that's usually because of interference because there's so many different devices near you that are trying to use that 5 GHz band and there's not actually that much space within it there is all of the 5 GHz channels now if you're using 80 MHz wide which you probably are if you've only got one AP and you're trying to do performance you can see there's literally only six available channels one of which isn't even available in Canada that's not very many ideally your broadcast testing on a channel that nobody else is using and if you live in an apartment you probably have somebody else that's using it but if we look at 6 GHz now we've got 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 that's a freaking lot and on top of that it's at a higher frequency that does mean you have a little bit worse signal strength especially because the FCC and all the other regulatory bodies I mean they were doing their job but they basically said if you're you're going to use 6 GHz because there's other people that use that frequency range mainly like some satellite providers you're not allowed to transmit very high signal which means unless you're in the same room standing right next to most 6 GHz enabled Wi-Fi access points it pretty much isn't even worth using because the signal strength is so bad and uh devices are not very good at switching between 5 and 6 GHz that I've seen and it just it just results in having a Wi-Fi experience but now with AFC this Wi-Fi access Point can contact a server and be like yo dog what frequencies are are not in use by other people and then it'll tell it which frequencies to use and then it can broadcast at the same signal strength as 5 GHz Wi-Fi which means you get the crazy speed you get the basically nobody else using it no interference factor and you can broadcast at the same power levels which is freaking crazy everyone talked about how 6
