I really want to get like a 90s office style kind of placard for this door that says the void because that is how I refer to this room. You'll see why. It's because the blackest paint you can get, come here, doesn't really look that black when you put it beside velvet. And I wanted it to be dark in here. So all the walls, the backs of the doors, the ceiling are all velvet. It's very weird. Would I do it again? I don't think so, but I have it. The darkest room in the neighborhood, for sure. I feel like if you just, if I just, if you just walk, start walking backwards, just decision to darken this. Come on in. I'll start with the speaker tour. It's the same speakers I had during my upgrade, which are just clipped ones, reference series, or no, reference premiere. So they're mid-fi. They're not crazy. They're just really good value. And I have a pretty good room for them. So I haven't been able to justify spending, I don't know what I would spend, 5,000 plus to upgrade these. I only spent probably a thousand on them so far. So I think it's just going to take a big jump. And probably me having no kids with no college funds before I can justify that kind of jump, I'm still happy. But the last time I talked to you guys, I had what? Five of them, I think. 5.0 is how my upgrade started. But now I've got 5.4.2. So let me show you. So what does that mean? So that means that I have the two towers on the left and right, the center speaker down there. I got two surrounds over here. And then I have four ceiling speakers. There's two kind of right here, kind of by the your feet. And then the other two are just behind, above slash behind your head. So the idea is you want to be able to hear like a helicopter moving over you. A lot of the time, just like surrounds on actually, it's not about hearing a thing like a fly buzzing around your ear. Most of the time, it's about just immersion, like the rain is falling kind of all the way around you. But sometimes sometimes you're like, is it? Is there a storm outside? Or is there a cop outside? Like it's so sometimes it's so immersive that you actually don't even know what's real or not. It can be. I've had to like pause the movie sometimes to see if there's someone at my door. How much does it all cost? So for the speakers, I got all of them on actually not all of them. I got most of them on Facebook, Marketplace, Secondhand. I got them all piecemeal. I got the towers, I think. I can't remember if they were like $400 just for the two of them, which I thought was great. And this is Canadian. But then the center, I think, again, this is like five plus years ago, but I think the center I paid almost as much as I did the two towers. That was a different seller way later. The, I got original boxes for the two surrounds. So I don't think I bought them new, though. I think I got them from like second turn or some kind of auction site or something. But I think I paid about 600 just for those. The ones in the ceiling, they are not nice. You don't need to spend a lot on those because, again, they're mostly just ambient sounds. They're just some Yamaha ones. I think I've got all four of them for like 150, maybe $200 Canadian. Again, Marketplace. The subs I did get from SVS knew. Subs are not cheap. I'm pretty sure they were like 800 plus each or something like that. Yeah, that's cheap. Dude, and that was with a heavy discount. Thank you, SVS. Like as you saw in the upgrade video, I didn't have subs for a while and I thought it was fine. Subs are really the difference between whether you have a home theater or not. If you don't have subs, you don't have a home theater. With these things, like the rumble, like I can confidently say, like, there's no reason for me to go to a movie theater. It's just as good or better because I'm not around people on their phones. I'm not like stepping in sticky pop. The AV experience in here is as good or better than any cinema I can go to. Despite me only having a 65-inch TV, which I know a lot of people are going to be like, brah, too. There was actually a little girl who lives in the neighborhood. I have kids. I guess the word got around. She said, I heard you have a home theater. She came in here and was like, this is not a movie theater. That's a normal TV. I was like, you just sit closer to it. But I would like to have a 77-plus in here. There's rumor at the Christmas party. There's going to be a high-sense 160-inch there that I might just really try to get, but I think I'm against Elijah for that. So I might have to break his kneecaps. This door actually has panels, like decorative kind of panels, and I filled them all with wood. I made this door way more thick and heavy. It's really heavy. You made the door? No, no. I bought a door and marketplace, a solid-core door, and then I added more material to it just to make it super thick so that it's super soundproof because my sister lives over there and she doesn't want to hear my movies and I don't want to hear what she's doing. And I got this cool porcelain door knob on all the doors, even though it's white and not black like everything else in here. It turns out having everything black sucks. It's like, you know how hard it is to find the light switch sometimes? You're just groping in the dark in here. So it's actually nice to have the porcelain white door knobs. I couldn't get porcelain black either. They were like five times the price, so I was like, screw it. The white looks cool. Have you thought of like painting it? Like, you know, the darkest paint in the world? I don't know. It's kind of like this paint. Like, the more matte it is, the kind of weaker and fingerprinty it is. You see how it gets so dirty so easily? Yeah, so these star ceilings is something a number of people have done in the home theater world. There's YouTube videos you can follow along. We'll actually do this in the automotive world. All it is is you buy these fiber optic kind of light generators that have like a like a big pipe of fiber optic strands and the strands just go out from the generator and then they spread out like this and you just poke holes and feed them through the holes and then put a glob of glue so they don't come backwards and then you snip them off and then the light from the generator travels down the fiber optic strands. Here you go. And some of them are thicker than others. There's like, I think three different sizes in there. So some of them look like closer or brighter stars than others. And you can see there's a twinkle feature. You can change the twinkle speed. You can change the color. You can there's all the stupid features like make it match the music, which it just never works. But yeah, I kind of thought it was cheesy at first, but it really I think elevates the space makes it way more cool to chill in. And that's what this room is for. It's not just for movies. It's for like the late end of the party. Come for the final six people at your party, just like chilling, listening to music. Great room for that. So the biggest difference with this room is all the sound treatment in here. It's like a freaking recording studio in here. And because of the bell that you really just can't tell it all. So for example, this whole wall, this I'm telling you this entire wall, this is what, I don't know, 15 feet is all sound treatment. So what I did was like, look, see this, this is this is just fabric. So you can see it kind of like rippling as I touch it. It's like a big, it's a false wall. And every so often there are studs. Let's see if I can find one right here. Here's one. Actually, this there happens to be a car, a millimeter wave presence detector here. So that lights turn on automatically in theory, when I walk in certain zones. But anyway, there's the studs periodically, and you can see I wall mounted the TV onto the studs. But in between the studs, there's a bunch of rock wall insulation floor to ceiling. And so that's great to catch the reflections, especially a lot of people don't put a lot of people forget to put treatment behind their speakers. But you know, the driver moves like this, like 50% of the energy goes backwards. And then so it's either going to get colored by that reflection right away. Or you can absorb some of it. And you can actually predict which frequency is going to get affected based on the distance here. And it might just completely make a trough. But probably the most important treatment is in these corners, they look like diagonal walls now, but they actually were just corners here and over there. Sorry, I got it. See this right here. This is like diagonal to me. I built this. So there's a stud here and here running this way, and down there. And in between, and there's just a big stack of insulation that's cut into a triangle to fill that corner. And the deepest point of the triangle is over 12 inches. And so that's going to absorb the lowest frequencies of any of the treatment I have in here. These are called super chunk base traps that you can DIY easily. I have one here. And in that corner over there, David helped me a couple of times. The velvet was hell. Oh, the star's thing was hell too. Like the frame, it's so big and so light and flimsy. I had six people all going like this to put it up. And a lot of the stuff I did completely by myself, like putting the ceiling speakers in with just whenever you don't have the right tools, man, I was standing on this couch trying to hold the speaker in the ceiling, got to grab something at my foot. So you're just like trying to lift it with your foot like sweating. Oh, it was hell. Oh, it's routing the cables too. I have this bulkhead you can see right here. There's this bulkhead that goes through. And so the networking originates in this other room over here. And I was able to go through my utility closet, access that bulkhead, and run all my like subwoofer speaker wire, all the speaker wire for the ceiling and these surrounds, they all route through that bulkhead on the networking. And then they come down my false wall and emerge out there. It is an outlet. We'll get a shot of. Just to hide all the cables, but like fishing it through this bulkhead was insane. Luckily, the velvet, I could make a bunch of holes in the ceiling and just put the velvet on top. So if I ever move or sell this house, man, I can have to do so much drywalling. I devalued this place. I devalued it so much. Or you value it if you leave it all. Yeah, if there's the correct buyer, they'll love it. It's a pain in the ass. Like I literally will vacuum my ceiling and walls. Like it's just, I'm like a psychopath in here. It's, or I have like a lint roller thing that I'll just be like, it's not worth it. A couple little frills. This, there's a register here. It had just a normal white register. I don't even know where I got this kind of fancy looking one, but I sprayed it with some matte black paint. I think that looks pretty cool. Another thing I have is, I think I need more curtains because it's just annoying that it's not black, black, black. I need like another layer like they do in hotel rooms. But what I do have is these little magnetic things that actually Justin from the office made for me. And they are just these little holders and I put one on each curtain and they have magnets. So they just hold the curtains together instead of there being little gap underneath the stars. There's actually a bunch of stuff hidden back there. There used to be a light fixture up there that I removed and I turned into a power outlet. Did not use an electrician. You're not allowed to do this. Don't do it, but it's easy. So easy. And I turned into an outlet and into the outlet I plugged my fiber optic generator and also there's a Google home up there. And I just talked to it. I tell it to play music and you can't even see the thing. There's also an ESP32 and a power supply and some cove lighting. And I didn't even bother turning it on because it sucks. I never use it. It was so much work. This whole thing was meant to float and there's ambient light. There's meant to be like a glowing cove light right here, but it's just not bright enough. And so I just, I just never use it. These things right here, these are called curtain holdbacks and they hold your curtains back. And I just think it's cool. It's black and it's got this cool shape and it adds to this kind of dark academia, Victorian aesthetic in here. You saw my wooden desk. Anyways, if you don't know what to Google, holdbacks. Have you ever bumped into this back? I feel like I'd bump into this all the time. No, the thing that you bump into is like that speaker. It's right in the walkway, right? Yeah, it was, it was, we're trying to get B-roll shaking a lot. I was like, oh my goodness. Yeah. That's pretty, oh, I guess I should say that I, one other thing, you can put this earlier in the video, but with this fireplace that's in here, this whole thing used to be like gold and gray and stuff. I just took it all out and just spray bombed it all black. Wow. And it's actually a heat-resistant spray, so I could still turn it on. Yes, that's my home theater tour. I think it's way better than Linus's, even though his is kind of nicer. I am envious of his carpet, but he has no sound treatment because he's a lazy butt. Please share your home theater stories in the comments and let us know if you like this kind of, this kind of content. Thanks so much. And thanks to David for helping me and Rob from AVRant.
