supposed","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":285.51,"end_s":291.21,"text":"to be a Mac exclusive and then Microsoft","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":288.57,"end_s":294.69,"text":"just wasn't particularly","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":296.55,"end_s":303.69,"text":"demanding this did have pretty good graphics for the time so this had the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":300.03,"end_s":305.97,"text":"ATI rage 128 which as far as raw","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":303.69,"end_s":311.43,"text":"performance goes was really good it was pretty comparable to the 3d effects Vudu","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":308.57,"end_s":316.5,"text":"although according to what I've seen online the drivers support was just hot","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":313.95,"end_s":320.25,"text":"garbage so it never really got the love that it probably deserved I guess that's","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":319.02,"end_s":327.09,"text":"kind of what happened still with like AMD cards that's just get into it as we flipped it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":324.06,"end_s":328.62,"text":"around here and now we have access to","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":327.09,"end_s":332.97,"text":"just this little slot right here I think this is the only part of the computer","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":330.21,"end_s":336.66,"text":"that Apple wanted you to actually know dig into so we have a look at the RAM","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":334.98,"end_s":340.95,"text":"now are you guys able to see that at all oh there's like no light in there there","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":340.35,"end_s":349.65,"text":"we go can you see that David yeah so we've got","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":345.24,"end_s":351.69,"text":"the RAM right in here and this is about","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":349.65,"end_s":358.26,"text":"all you'd be expected to be able to upgrade so this one's 512 megabytes and","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":354.9,"end_s":361.02,"text":"this one right here is 256 so that is","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":358.26,"end_s":367.65,"text":"definitely upgraded I think this came with up to 64 megabytes of RAM back in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":364.05,"end_s":369.69,"text":"the day so having what over 700","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":367.65,"end_s":374.73,"text":"megabytes of RAM would have been pretty insane it's like that would be like I","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":371.97,"end_s":379.98,"text":"don't know finding a new iMac with two terabytes of RAM in it like you can but","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":377.07,"end_s":384.69,"text":"no one really is going to until much later yeah so if you want display out I","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":382.41,"end_s":389.56,"text":"don't think I've ever seen like a real person use an extra monitor with these","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":387.72,"end_s":393.94,"text":"but in theory you can it's kind of hidden now oh whoa you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":391.93,"end_s":399.94,"text":"don't see screws like that in computers anymore that's self-tapping I think so that's","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":397.93,"end_s":403.47,"text":"pretty gross I just realized that I forgot my sublime CD in there I don't","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":401.83,"end_s":409.48,"text":"know if I'm ever getting that back oh geez it didn't break we did it so it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":407.86,"end_s":414.97,"text":"looks like around all of the computer components here we have a Faraday cage I","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":412.54,"end_s":420.34,"text":"guess that that's to prevent like too much noise from happening from like the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":417.06,"end_s":422.229,"text":"you know the big CRT that's up here on","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":420.34,"end_s":427.18,"text":"the top so I guess that kind of explains why more people didn't bother making all","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":425.02,"end_s":430.27,"text":"in ones back in the day then again also it was just hard to make all in ones not","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":428.74,"end_s":435.22,"text":"many people do it these days either alright Faraday cage gone wow those are","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":433.24,"end_s":439.81,"text":"definitely exposed capacitors that's cool so if we look here it's any of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":438.16,"end_s":445.21,"text":"those you touch them and you're gonna be having a really bad time so now we can","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":442.36,"end_s":449.05,"text":"see the logic board not to be confused with a motherboard it's it's actually","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":447.4,"end_s":451.99,"text":"the same thing but Apple just call some logic boards for whatever reason well","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":450.639,"end_s":458.59,"text":"guys I really hope that you like this video cuz there's something about just really old things and when you take them","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":456.85,"end_s":463.0,"text":"apart you don't really know what you're gonna find inside I would like to do","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":460.9,"end_s":469.0,"text":"more of this and I imagine Anthony also wants to do a lot more of this hit us up","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":466.63,"end_s":472.51,"text":"in the comments down below and I don't know basically tell Linus that you want","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":470.53,"end_s":477.97,"text":"more retro stuff because I definitely do look at the size of this battery is that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":474.43,"end_s":480.97,"text":"the seamos that's hilarious right here's","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":477.97,"end_s":483.85,"text":"the a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":498.36,"end_s":506.289,"text":"sleeper in this but it turns out that getting a display that fits doesn't","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":502.9,"end_s":508.84,"text":"really exist so if anyone can find a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":506.289,"end_s":513.669,"text":"display you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":537.4,"end_s":543.85,"text":"get for heat sinking in this is this little block of aluminum that's before we started up here we've got the i/o for the time on a PC this was considered pretty bad people got really angry with the fact that only had a CD drive right here floppy disks were still quite popular in like 1999 so it was pretty radical that they only included a CD drive here we've also got to fire wires I believe that is 56k modem and Ethernet we also have only two USB ports that's a supposed to be this one right here but they just couldn't get it like totally done in time oh yes do we just see if it works I just get right into it I'm so excited for the dome yeah that came out weird okay we are in macOS 10 which is a bit unfortunate because this right here is kind of the last generation of PowerPC Macs that's not x86 and you know these PowerPC CPUs it's got a single core this one right here is the fast one which goes at 400 megahertz but in macOS 10 she runs like hawk garbage so originally this right here came with I think would be 9.2 and it ran really fast and there were quite a few applications and then because the PowerPC CPUs were a bit too power-hungry bit too hot Apple switched over to Intel and they they kind of just drop support for these like one or two years after they started existing so we have a 13.8 inch display here and it is a 1024 by 768 display at 75 Hertz I think every one that actually is this would go with the 800 by 600 resolution and you get 95 Hertz just look so smooth it's the kind of thing we're like back in the day I didn't even know that I preferred high refresh rate monitors but it still is what I went for anyway let's go in here what applications do we have iMovie oh it's booting into macOS 9.2 inside of 10 so that we can open iMovie and I'd give it a 50% chance of working nope yep this application our control panel is not supported I have no clue what this computer is or where it came from oh that's that's legitimately someone's tax info let's just close that thing everybody wipe your PC's before you send them to places I guess that will have to not show people the audio because we definitely don't have any of this Oh iTunes is opening it was still green back then that's fun we're gonna have to cut the audio soon here but though it's it's pretty funny I would say that those speakers are very comparable to that on the MacBook Air that we recently reviewed and we were like oh my god these are great how did they do it well back in the day you just made them freakin huge and then you had great sound no problem they aren't particularly loud like our amber that like you can't fill a living room with these speakers but if it's just you sitting in front of it it's a pretty great time up the highs fair bit of bass I'm pretty impressed especially given how old this poor thing is I actually do remember this game it kind of says it's his mom's favorite game I'm sorry there were actually like a number of pretty games marathon being the most notable that was like what Bungie did before halo halo was actually supposed to be a Mac exclusive and then Microsoft just came in and was like yeah and all Bobby want that what a different world that would have been even though that game right there wasn't particularly demanding this did have pretty good graphics for the time so this had the ATI rage 128 which as far as raw performance goes was really good it was pretty comparable to the 3d effects Vudu although according to what I've seen online the drivers support was just hot garbage so it never really got the love that it probably deserved I guess that's kind of what happened still with like AMD cards that's just get into it as we flipped it around here and now we have access to just this little slot right here I think this is the only part of the computer that Apple wanted you to actually know dig into so we have a look at the RAM now are you guys able to see that at all oh there's like no light in there there we go can you see that David yeah so we've got the RAM right in here and this is about all you'd be expected to be able to upgrade so this one's 512 megabytes and this one right here is 256 so that is definitely upgraded I think this came with up to 64 megabytes of RAM back in the day so having what over 700 megabytes of RAM would have been pretty insane it's like that would be like I don't know finding a new iMac with two terabytes of RAM in it like you can but no one really is going to until much later yeah so if you want display out I don't think I've ever seen like a real person use an extra monitor with these but in theory you can it's kind of hidden now oh whoa you don't see screws like that in computers anymore that's self-tapping I think so that's pretty gross I just realized that I forgot my sublime CD in there I don't know if I'm ever getting that back oh geez it didn't break we did it so it looks like around all of the computer components here we have a Faraday cage I guess that that's to prevent like too much noise from happening from like the you know the big CRT that's up here on the top so I guess that kind of explains why more people didn't bother making all in ones back in the day then again also it was just hard to make all in ones not many people do it these days either alright Faraday cage gone wow those are definitely exposed capacitors that's cool so if we look here it's any of those you touch them and you're gonna be having a really bad time so now we can see the logic board not to be confused with a motherboard it's it's actually the same thing but Apple just call some logic boards for whatever reason well guys I really hope that you like this video cuz there's something about just really old things and when you take them apart you don't really know what you're gonna find inside I would like to do more of this and I imagine Anthony also wants to do a lot more of this hit us up in the comments down below and I don't know basically tell Linus that you want more retro stuff because I definitely do look at the size of this battery is that the seamos that's hilarious right here's the connector for the CD drive and also the hard drive you guys may think it looks familiar to an IDE but it's actually a scuzzy which is SCSI I don't actually really know the difference between the two besides because he's a fun name to say I really wanted to do a sleeper in this but it turns out that getting a display that fits doesn't really exist so if anyone can find a display to go in this please let me know I will use it in an instant this right here is just the absolute weapon of a CPU that you get in here so 400 megahertz single core not even x86 but it's yeah there's not a whole lot of redeeming qualities of it but it was pretty cool at the time what did I have for a heat sink here I guess someone yell at me in the comments if I'm wrong but as far as I can tell all that you get for heat sinking in this is this little block of aluminum that's jammed up against the processor and then it goes into this admittedly fairly large chunk of aluminum here that is used to you know stop too much interference coming in from the CRT on top how under Apple switch to Intel they're just they're like Oh PowerPC is way too hot meanwhile this is what you've got for a cooler on a good god this is absolutely going to suck to put back together I'd be half tempted to not accept that my sublime CD is still in the front here and with these right here like you know how on a normal CD player you'd have to be able to take like a pin and jam it in get your CD out if there's no power no such luck on these so here's a CRT I'm not going any further because even though there should be a drain resistor in here that you know takes away any of the high voltage that exists in here it's it's what twenty years old I don't trust it and you know there's a big ol 400 volt capacitor right there it's a bunch of other stuff basically I have an electron gun that's very high voltage and if I touch any of this I die not quite the ending that I hoped for this iMac g3 it's an absolutely beautiful machine and I hope that you guys like this video here hit like get subscribed and I need to put this back together so I can get my sublime CD back"}
