Oh, I forgot to mention, there is actually a third mode.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":287.96,"end_s":293.0,"text":"So there's follow mode, anchor mode, and then there's anchor man mode, where it just ignores any input from your device","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":293.0,"end_s":296.8,"text":"and just says, go fuck yourself San Diego on the screen all the time.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":296.8,"end_s":300.48,"text":"That's anchor man mode. So if you turned off the electrochromic dimming,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":468.32,"end_s":473.52,"text":"then you could kind of look up at like a big TV here or you could have sort of content playing on the side","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":473.52,"end_s":477.12,"text":"separately while you could continue to just use your monitor as you normally would.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":477.12,"end_s":483.68,"text":"Bad news though is that at this time, ASUS doesn't have any pricing information for us.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":483.68,"end_s":487.96,"text":"So it's impossible for me to tell you if I think they'd be worth picking up or not.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":487.96,"end_s":491.04,"text":"And they won't be hitting retail until about Q2 of this year.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":491.04,"end_s":494.08,"text":"However, at that time, they are gonna come bundled with the dock,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":494.08,"end_s":499.08,"text":"which is pretty cool unless you don't want the dock. And now, a year later, ASUS has partnered with Xreel, and with us to sponsor this video, to unveil those, except for gamers. Meet the ROG-XXreel R1 gaming glasses. These things are in a nutshell. Well, they're not in a nutshell, they're in a hard case. Sick. The visuals are still supplied by a pair of 1920 by 1080 micro OLED displays for lightning fast 0.01 millisecond response times. We've still got a massive 57 degree field of view that can create up to a 171 inch virtual display, whatever that means exactly. And they're still shockingly bright at 700 nits with electrochromic dimming, which, wait, makes them gaming how exactly? Ah, well, there is an RGB strip along the side. And the refresh rate is dialed up from 120 Hertz all the way to 240 Hertz. And they created this dock to make it way easier to connect to gaming devices that don't happen to have a fully-featured USB-C output. Let's check them out. Well, my notes say unboxed them, but I guess I kind of already did that. Why don't we have a look at the accessories? Inside the not final packaging, this is clearly Xreel's packaging, you will find two additional sizes of nose pads, depending on the shape of your face, as well as a little lenses frame here. These can be used to add prescription lenses to your R1 gaming glasses. It also comes with a handy-dandy polishing cloth. The cable you'll need to plug it into anything, which is not to be taken for granted these days, as well as the carrying case that I showed you guys before. In terms of the fit and finish, it feels quite similar to the Xreel 1 Pros that I've used in the past, which is a good thing. It's just 91 grams, thanks to being powered by the tether, rather than an integrated battery, and has a simple interface that includes an action button, a rocker button for navigation, as well as a programmable macro button. It's also got Bose Tune speakers, which doesn't always mean a ton, but in this case, they actually sound pretty decent. But you don't have to use them, because of course, you can just pair your Bluetooth earphones to whatever device you're using wirelessly. I guess now we plug them in. Let's do it. I feel like driving these off of the ROG-X box isn't going to be the best way to take advantage of their 240 Hertz display, just because of the limited performance. But this is such a realistic use case for these, because these are a great way to bring a large screen device out and about with you, without having to, I don't know, staple up a projection screen on the bus. What, you could? It was a good visual. There's two main modes. The screen can either follow you around wherever you're looking, or you can lock it in space in front of you, and then it'll just kind of stay there. Well, the electrochromic dimming is working really, really well, because I cannot see my notes at all through the steam interface. So that's cool. What's cool about that too, is that you can set it to automatically turn the electrochromic dimming on and off, depending on whether you're looking at the screen. So if somebody walks up to your desk and you're using this as like a virtual desktop, you can be like locked in, and you can look over, you're like, hey, sup, do I look like a big nerd? That's good, because I am. It's worth noting, there's a couple different sizes. I'm wearing the one that is for medium-sized heads, which is good, because I do not have a large head. Ah, damn, I missed. It's kind of amazing how good 1080p looks, because like, yeah, it's a, you know, I think I have it set to 171-inch screen right now at five meters or something like that, but like, you know, it's not that big. Like if you're sitting next to a 1080p monitor, it's about like it was like this, right? Because at that distance, really not bad. And actually, playing more casual games, like I'm playing tape-to-tape right now, and I think I probably could get like 150, 200 FPS out of this. Like it's smooth. That in OLED, man. Instantaneous response times make such a difference to how the game looks and feels. Oh, I hit the post again. Cruel, it is worth noting though, that there is no HDR support at this time. So it's bright and it's OLED and all of that, so you get that really nice contrast. He scores again, but no support for HDR at the moment. I'm just holding this up so that they can see this goal. Wow. And after these, let's make our way over to the couch, which I can do by just setting the screen to follow mode. Now I can always see it. Oh, I forgot to mention, there is actually a third mode. So there's follow mode, anchor mode, and then there's anchor man mode, where it just ignores any input from your device and just says, go fuck yourself San Diego on the screen all the time. That's anchor man mode. So you double click to get into the full menu, and I've got the frame rate boost off for now. So let's go ahead and plug into the dock. The dock's pretty cool. The idea is that not everything has both the display and data capabilities that you need to run a device like this. So ASUS created a dock that has two HDMI inputs, one DisplayPort input, power in, and then the ability to plug your glasses into the front. My head is like not compatible with glasses. I need just like that much, and then it would sit perfect. Wait, oh, there's an angle in the hinge. Okay, that helps a lot. I thought I was like breaking it, but actually that's part of the design. I hope. Another thing ASUS added, compared to the regular X-Reel version, is some carryovers from their gaming monitors. For instance, if you're a filthy cheater, you can add crosshair in the middle. And then they've also got an FPS counter if you're a big nerd, like me. And they're apparently planning more features in the future. This is still pretty early days. Really not bad 1080p at this size. Find it hard to be disciplined enough to hold still enough to like maximize the size of the screen and also never cut off the corners, but I guess that's what follow-boots for. I just find I get a bit of a like stereoscopic 3D headache when I use follow mode, but your mileage may vary. It is worth noting by the way, guys, that while I'm showing you what I'm doing, privacy is a major feature of displays like this. Whether you're on the bus or the plane or in the office, you can be consuming pretty much any kind of content. And if you have the speakers off or very low, then nobody has any way of seeing what you're doing, which can be great if you're working on confidential materials, or if you're being a degenerate, which I don't judge. Of course, so far we've only showed this thing connected to mobile devices, like a gaming handheld or a laptop. Of course, the dock also allows you to connect to a desktop, which is probably where we'll get the most benefit out of our 240 Hertz refresh rate. So why don't we go ahead and do that? All right, time to try 240 Hertz. Now, obviously not every gamer who has a monitor like this on their desk would put on glasses to game, but ASUS does see a valid use case for people who just kind of want to kick back like this and have the display be wherever their eyes happen to be. Personally, that's not my gaming posture, but I don't judge. Right now, I'd say the screen I'm playing on is actually about the size of this one. In fact, here, I could line them up. Actually a little smaller, but it's hard to tell because it's like way out in front of me. So I'm not focusing on something that's right in front of my face, which I personally don't find uncomfortable focusing at this distance for long periods of time, but your mileage may vary on that one. Some people find it quite uncomfortable. Another potential use case for these is as a secondary display. So if you turned off the electrochromic dimming, then you could kind of look up at like a big TV here or you could have sort of content playing on the side separately while you could continue to just use your monitor as you normally would. Bad news though is that at this time, ASUS doesn't have any pricing information for us. So it's impossible for me to tell you if I think they'd be worth picking up or not. And they won't be hitting retail until about Q2 of this year. However, at that time, they are gonna come bundled with the dock, which is pretty cool unless you don't want the dock. In which case, if you wanted to pick up the glasses separately, that might take a while. They haven't committed to when, if ever, they're gonna sell the glasses without the dock. Finally, and this is the last important bit, these types of products are not for everyone. I wish they were, but some people can't handle VR or augmented reality for long periods of time or even short periods of time without issues like eye strain, headaches, and nausea. So ASUS recommends, and I agree, that you should limit your time with them to maybe 30 to 40 minutes at a time, at least for the first few sessions so that your body can adjust. Despite all that, looking forward to when these come out. Thanks again to ASUS for sponsoring this video and letting me take an early look at the ASUS RGXX real glasses. There's plenty more CES coverage coming, so stay tuned. By the time you guys watch this, I'm already gonna be in Las Vegas checking out all the cool stuff at the show. If you guys enjoyed this video, why not check out, hey, that appearance on The Tonight Show. It's pretty cool. I was really nervous at the beginning, so maybe just let's skip that part. I'm gonna try and do better this time. Oh, I'm going on again. Am I allowed to say that? I don't know, I guess I just did."}
