Hi. What's going on in the production department this week?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":5.12,"end_s":12.08,"text":"Oh, oh, there's a lot we're ramping up for LTX. So we've got a lot of videos coming up and we're","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":12.08,"end_s":17.6,"text":"prepping some extra ones. So then when we're working at LTX, there still be videos happening.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":17.6,"end_s":20.24,"text":"Can you give any insight what the videos are? Can we not tease them?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":22.56,"end_s":34.4,"text":"Probably not, right? There's some fun stuff. There's some, there's some things that we've been waiting a long time to release. And it's pretty exciting. I","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":34.4,"end_s":43.04,"text":"think there's some, yeah, some, some pretty exciting, like, other people that you might see,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":43.04,"end_s":52.08,"text":"you might get a bit of insight on some things around the office, some, some people outside the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":52.08,"end_s":60.4,"text":"office, some cool faces. Yeah, I don't know. Is that vague enough? Is that too vague?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":62.4,"end_s":67.92,"text":"So I guess we can expect some collabs and stuff like that coming up. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":67.92,"end_s":75.52,"text":"so exciting, interesting collabs. Let's go. Okay, I'm hyped for that one. How long have you been","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":75.52,"end_s":80.96,"text":"working at LMG for? This is my third year at LMG. Okay. How's it been so far?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":82.64,"end_s":88.24,"text":"It's been a roller coaster. Yeah, there's always like, you never really know what to expect. And","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":88.24,"end_s":94.64,"text":"there are always like, things coming up left and right, like you'll hear screaming from the studios.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":94.64,"end_s":98.16,"text":"And that's just like, oh, yeah, that's just a normal day. That's totally fine.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":99.44,"end_s":104.4,"text":"What's your current role right now here? I'm a production supervisor for the editing department.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":105.04,"end_s":111.28,"text":"And what does that look like on a day to day basis? Oh, so a lot of it is like, I'll look at","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":111.28,"end_s":118.32,"text":"what we have in editing or getting ready to be edited. And then depending on how long those will","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":118.32,"end_s":124.64,"text":"take, I look at the schedule and then I slot those in however I see fit. And then I work with editors","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":124.64,"end_s":129.76,"text":"and then I'll talk to the writers as well to see if everything's on track and make sure, yeah, we","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":129.76,"end_s":135.6,"text":"have videos. Nice. So mainly you're working with editors, production, that sort of thing? Yes,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":135.68,"end_s":141.84,"text":"mainly. Okay. But you were also an editor too at one point? I was. Yeah. So when I started here,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":141.84,"end_s":148.64,"text":"I was an editor. And then eventually I became a production supervisor. Nice. Yeah. How long have","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":148.64,"end_s":157.52,"text":"you been editing videos for? Honestly, I started editing what I was working here. So I did like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":157.52,"end_s":164.4,"text":"very light editing for like school projects and like side projects. But then a lot of the stuff","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":164.4,"end_s":171.92,"text":"that I did before was like producing work. So then a lot of it was scheduling and then a lot of it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":171.92,"end_s":179.2,"text":"was working with people for like the budgets, that kind of thing. So what industry was that? Was","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":179.2,"end_s":184.32,"text":"that like the film industry? Yeah, so it was in the film industry, but it wasn't in like studio","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":184.32,"end_s":191.6,"text":"productions. So I worked on a documentary before coming to LMG. Okay. Well, what documentary was","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":191.6,"end_s":197.44,"text":"it? It's about the Fraser River. It's called Heart of the Fraser. And then we worked with the BCIT","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":197.44,"end_s":203.28,"text":"Rivers Institute to put that together. Yeah. What's interesting? Do you think it was fun working on","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":203.28,"end_s":210.72,"text":"that? That was super interesting. In a way that's like I learned about the area we live in so much","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":210.72,"end_s":219.92,"text":"more than I would have ever thought to have known or have ever like really paid attention to.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":220.88,"end_s":224.8,"text":"Because we hear about so many things like in other parts of the world, it's like, oh, yeah,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":224.8,"end_s":229.76,"text":"rainforests are super cool. And then it's like, oh, the Arctic Circle super cool. But then even here,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":229.76,"end_s":235.36,"text":"it's like, wow, we've got like dinosaurs living in the Fraser River. Wait, dinosaurs really? Yeah,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":235.36,"end_s":240.64,"text":"apparently sturgeon. Sturgeon are like, they get super big. Right. You can't eat them. Yeah.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":240.64,"end_s":246.0,"text":"Wait, but are sturgeon dinosaurs? Wait, what? Well, it's like sharks are dinosaurs, right? Sharks","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":246.0,"end_s":253.2,"text":"have predated. Right. So they've been here like when the dinosaurs were here, right? Yeah, exactly.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":253.2,"end_s":260.16,"text":"So they're there. Yeah, big boys. Right. Very big fish. Yeah, I got you. Why did you end up going","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":260.16,"end_s":271.04,"text":"to LMG then? I wanted something stable, but not like boring, you know. Right. Was the documentary","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":271.92,"end_s":277.76,"text":"not stable? Was it boring? The thing is, like, if it's not like a regular nine to five,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":277.76,"end_s":284.08,"text":"yeah, if it's always like, you have to always be searching for the next job. And you always have","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":284.08,"end_s":291.68,"text":"to have like this constant flow of work. Or else it gets like super uncertain. But then it's like,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":292.56,"end_s":297.04,"text":"here, there's always something to work on. And especially it's like, it's in tech.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":297.76,"end_s":303.36,"text":"So then there's always going to be something new. And then I was always super interested in tech as","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":303.36,"end_s":308.8,"text":"well, even before like I went to film school and that kind of thing. So then it just seemed like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":309.52,"end_s":318.24,"text":"a really good fit in a sense of like, well, I make videos. Oh, I watch their stuff anyways.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":319.04,"end_s":325.12,"text":"This kind of makes sense. So how was that experience like, I guess, being thrown into a role where","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":325.2,"end_s":328.96,"text":"you had, you know, you had some experience in, but specifically editing,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":328.96,"end_s":334.24,"text":"you didn't have too much, is that correct? Yeah, it was very, very much like,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":335.92,"end_s":342.72,"text":"like trial by fire. It was like, okay, let's see what I'm learning today. And then it's a lot of like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":343.68,"end_s":348.72,"text":"learning on the spot and like learning as you go along. And then I feel like the workflow here","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":348.72,"end_s":356.56,"text":"is also really different than what you see in like typical productions. And then like one editor is","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":356.56,"end_s":363.76,"text":"kind of seeing everything through. So I learned a lot really quickly. And then every single day","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":363.76,"end_s":370.16,"text":"for like the first year and even now, it's like, Oh, wow, I didn't know there are like these kind","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":370.16,"end_s":378.24,"text":"of features that I could use. And then it's always, it's always something different and new.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":378.24,"end_s":382.56,"text":"And there's always like different ways to problem solve. Like for example, if I want like,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":383.92,"end_s":388.24,"text":"a lot of like picture and picture editing, you can do like a lot of multicam editing with a lot","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":388.24,"end_s":394.4,"text":"of different layers. And that kind of like makes it a bit more dynamic and interesting. And then","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":394.4,"end_s":399.04,"text":"you get a lot more options like that when you're putting a story together.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":399.6,"end_s":401.52,"text":"Do you remember your first video that you worked on?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":403.04,"end_s":410.16,"text":"My first video was actually during my trial period. It was the dishwashing your keyboards video.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":413.12,"end_s":416.24,"text":"Okay, you know what? We'll try it later. Let's have a look at our next board.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":418.56,"end_s":422.48,"text":"I wouldn't have thought it possible, but this one's even more full of water than the last one.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":422.56,"end_s":429.92,"text":"Let's have a look at the cleanliness though. That is a big improvement. So you know what though,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":429.92,"end_s":433.92,"text":"there's still some grunge. So most of it is pretty good. Do you mind grabbing the keypoiler?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":434.48,"end_s":439.2,"text":"So what this tells us, Oh, it splashed me right on the crunchy part.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":439.2,"end_s":445.92,"text":"Yeah. Yeah. So that, that was a very memorable first video experience.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":447.28,"end_s":452.0,"text":"And then I don't, I don't think they even kept a lot of like what I was working on for the cut","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":452.0,"end_s":458.8,"text":"because I think Alex P. Heady took over afterwards and like cleaned it up and made it like a real video","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":458.8,"end_s":461.76,"text":"and everything like that. And then put it out. But I thought it was interesting","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":462.32,"end_s":468.4,"text":"to see the video come out afterwards. I was like, Oh, hey, I remember that footage. I've seen that.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":468.4,"end_s":473.52,"text":"And how, how was that experience like? Do you remember like, I don't know, being","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":474.32,"end_s":478.64,"text":"like overwhelmed or anything? Or did you kind of get it like right away?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":478.64,"end_s":486.48,"text":"Oh, it's definitely overwhelming. I think like my entire first year here","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":487.52,"end_s":493.04,"text":"was pretty overwhelming. It's so much happening and so many new things.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":494.08,"end_s":498.0,"text":"And it's just so different than anything that I've ever done before.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":499.52,"end_s":505.12,"text":"That it's like, yeah, definitely a roller coaster, but it's so interesting in that way.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":505.12,"end_s":509.12,"text":"Right. Yeah. So, so what is it like being an editor for LMG?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":511.52,"end_s":519.12,"text":"A lot of it is on the cutting room floor, I'd say. So much of it is like you're,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":519.12,"end_s":526.24,"text":"there are these little moments, you know, where you see like behind the scenes that kind of stick","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":526.24,"end_s":531.12,"text":"with you and make it interesting, even though it will never make it into the video. Like for example,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":531.2,"end_s":538.48,"text":"I was looking through some footage the other day, and then I saw frame by frame, a mosquito","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":539.76,"end_s":546.08,"text":"fly in, land on Linus's face. Stay there for a few moments and then fly away.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":547.52,"end_s":552.4,"text":"Like this recently? This was recently. And it was actually, that part was actually in the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":552.4,"end_s":557.28,"text":"A-roll of the video that came out. And then it's, it's like those kind of moments where it's like,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":557.6,"end_s":562.72,"text":"this is so interesting. I never would pay attention to that kind of thing or notice it. If I'm just","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":562.72,"end_s":569.68,"text":"watching a video, like casually just for the content, but because it's like I'm paying attention to","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":569.68,"end_s":578.0,"text":"more aspects of it, it's like, oh, wow, I just saw frame by frame, a mosquito landing. So somebody","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":578.0,"end_s":583.12,"text":"who goes and washes that video right now, or is it not out yet? Oh, it's totally out. I can, I can","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":583.52,"end_s":590.56,"text":"find you. Okay, okay. Send me that clip. I'm overly right now. Yeah, it's hilarious. It's so good.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":592.8,"end_s":600.24,"text":"Once we fiddled with the pack, charging it could be difficult and or dangerous and spend $2,500","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":602.24,"end_s":607.92,"text":"on high current lipo batteries. Okay, speaking of things that don't make it a final cut or like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":607.92,"end_s":612.08,"text":"things you notice behind the scenes, what's the craziest thing that we've had to cut out from a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":612.08,"end_s":622.96,"text":"video? Oh geez, oh my god, there's so much. Oh my goodness. Then we had to cut out of a video.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":625.44,"end_s":627.44,"text":"I feel like we try to leave all the gold","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":629.36,"end_s":636.72,"text":"in every single video. That might actually take some thinking. What are some examples","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":636.72,"end_s":641.68,"text":"of videos you've seen recently that are kind of wild? Say yes to everything. There was a lot","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":641.68,"end_s":646.08,"text":"that was cut off, but it ended up making the Floatplane exclusive. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Because now","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":646.08,"end_s":651.68,"text":"there are Floatplane exclusives, which is like people will still get to see it, which is totally","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":651.68,"end_s":662.4,"text":"cool. Oh, there have been times like for a lot of the wilder builds that we do or like the cooling","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":662.4,"end_s":668.64,"text":"ones that Alexi does, a lot of times like there's so much troubleshooting behind the scenes where","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":668.72,"end_s":675.2,"text":"it's like, uh-oh, is this actually going to work? And then it's interesting because as we're editing","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":675.2,"end_s":681.68,"text":"it, we're also along for the ride. It's almost like we're living through the lens all over again.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":681.68,"end_s":685.92,"text":"It's like, okay, well they finished shooting the video, so something definitely happened.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":686.88,"end_s":696.72,"text":"But is it what they were intending? I think there was one time where they took out the CPU","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":697.04,"end_s":701.84,"text":"three or four times and then reinserted it. And then it's like, I don't know if it's going to boot.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":701.84,"end_s":706.96,"text":"I don't think that. I don't know. But at the end it's like, oh, it's actually working. That's wild.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":706.96,"end_s":714.8,"text":"That's totally not expected. So when they finish filming a video, do they just hand you all of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":714.8,"end_s":720.16,"text":"the footage without telling you exactly what goes on? We do know. We know that generally, okay,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":720.16,"end_s":726.48,"text":"this is what's supposed to happen. This was the idea of the video. And then we knew some sort of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":726.48,"end_s":732.64,"text":"troubleshooting happened and some wild things occurred. Right. But then sometimes you don't","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":732.64,"end_s":739.2,"text":"know exactly what goes on. And then it's just like that kind of thing. Oh, I thought of a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":739.2,"end_s":744.88,"text":"different one, but this actually made it into a video. Okay. It was just kind of like wild occurrences","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":745.68,"end_s":751.28,"text":"in the life of an LMG editor. So then this was way back. I think this wasn't like the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":751.28,"end_s":756.64,"text":"first or second year that I was working here. And then I was just editing one day. I was like, oh,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":758.08,"end_s":763.28,"text":"is the server down? It's acting kind of funny. And then it's also like, oh, do you smell something?","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":763.28,"end_s":772.0,"text":"Smells kind of funny. And then all of a sudden, you see David like sprinting by with the fire","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":772.0,"end_s":780.4,"text":"extinguisher. And then you hear like spraying and everything is like, oh, I guess something's","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":780.4,"end_s":786.32,"text":"wrong in the server room. And then it was when the server caught fire. Right, right. Yeah,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":786.32,"end_s":792.56,"text":"that time. That was super interesting. What's your favorite video you've ever worked on? Oh,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":792.56,"end_s":801.84,"text":"favorite one. Oh, hmm, that's tough. I think one of the ones I enjoy looking back on,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":802.8,"end_s":809.52,"text":"the secret shopper one with Sarah in it. Yeah, the ones with Sarah in it were super fun.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":810.16,"end_s":816.32,"text":"And I think it's just like her reactions to a lot of things. And like the when she did the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":816.32,"end_s":820.48,"text":"secret shopper build, where she picked her own parts and everything and put together a PC,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":820.48,"end_s":828.64,"text":"I think that was so fun. And so, so hilarious. I love that. Okay, on the flip side, what's the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":828.64,"end_s":838.64,"text":"worst video you've ever worked on? Oh, I think I don't know if I can say it's the worst, just because","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":838.64,"end_s":845.6,"text":"I feel like it was still fun in the end. And I thought it was like still enjoyable. But the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":845.6,"end_s":856.08,"text":"ASMR video, I think listening to a lot of people like whispering in your ear for like,","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":857.2,"end_s":865.04,"text":"day straight, it was a little, it was a little like, weird, was a little intimate.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":865.04,"end_s":871.92,"text":"Especially since they're your coworkers, right? Yeah, yeah. And then like, throughout the whole","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":871.92,"end_s":876.8,"text":"thing, Linus definitely was like, yellow whispering. So then everyone's like, super relaxed and","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":876.8,"end_s":886.0,"text":"everything. And then Linus is like, then you have to do this. That's like, oh, no. So we've got a lot of videos coming up and we're prepping some extra ones. So then when we're working at LTX, there still be videos happening. Can you give any insight what the videos are? Can we not tease them? Probably not, right? There's some fun stuff. There's some, there's some things that we've been waiting a long time to release. And it's pretty exciting. I think there's some, yeah, some, some pretty exciting, like, other people that you might see, you might get a bit of insight on some things around the office, some, some people outside the office, some cool faces. Yeah, I don't know. Is that vague enough? Is that too vague? So I guess we can expect some collabs and stuff like that coming up. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So, so exciting, interesting collabs. Let's go. Okay, I'm hyped for that one. How long have you been working at LMG for? This is my third year at LMG. Okay. How's it been so far? It's been a roller coaster. Yeah, there's always like, you never really know what to expect. And there are always like, things coming up left and right, like you'll hear screaming from the studios. And that's just like, oh, yeah, that's just a normal day. That's totally fine. What's your current role right now here? I'm a production supervisor for the editing department. And what does that look like on a day to day basis? Oh, so a lot of it is like, I'll look at what we have in editing or getting ready to be edited. And then depending on how long those will take, I look at the schedule and then I slot those in however I see fit. And then I work with editors and then I'll talk to the writers as well to see if everything's on track and make sure, yeah, we have videos. Nice. So mainly you're working with editors, production, that sort of thing? Yes, mainly. Okay. But you were also an editor too at one point? I was. Yeah. So when I started here, I was an editor. And then eventually I became a production supervisor. Nice. Yeah. How long have you been editing videos for? Honestly, I started editing what I was working here. So I did like very light editing for like school projects and like side projects. But then a lot of the stuff that I did before was like producing work. So then a lot of it was scheduling and then a lot of it was working with people for like the budgets, that kind of thing. So what industry was that? Was that like the film industry? Yeah, so it was in the film industry, but it wasn't in like studio productions. So I worked on a documentary before coming to LMG. Okay. Well, what documentary was it? It's about the Fraser River. It's called Heart of the Fraser. And then we worked with the BCIT Rivers Institute to put that together. Yeah. What's interesting? Do you think it was fun working on that? That was super interesting. In a way that's like I learned about the area we live in so much more than I would have ever thought to have known or have ever like really paid attention to. Because we hear about so many things like in other parts of the world, it's like, oh, yeah, rainforests are super cool. And then it's like, oh, the Arctic Circle super cool. But then even here, it's like, wow, we've got like dinosaurs living in the Fraser River. Wait, dinosaurs really? Yeah, apparently sturgeon. Sturgeon are like, they get super big. Right. You can't eat them. Yeah. Wait, but are sturgeon dinosaurs? Wait, what? Well, it's like sharks are dinosaurs, right? Sharks have predated. Right. So they've been here like when the dinosaurs were here, right? Yeah, exactly. So they're there. Yeah, big boys. Right. Very big fish. Yeah, I got you. Why did you end up going to LMG then? I wanted something stable, but not like boring, you know. Right. Was the documentary not stable? Was it boring? The thing is, like, if it's not like a regular nine to five, yeah, if it's always like, you have to always be searching for the next job. And you always have to have like this constant flow of work. Or else it gets like super uncertain. But then it's like, here, there's always something to work on. And especially it's like, it's in tech. So then there's always going to be something new. And then I was always super interested in tech as well, even before like I went to film school and that kind of thing. So then it just seemed like a really good fit in a sense of like, well, I make videos. Oh, I watch their stuff anyways. This kind of makes sense. So how was that experience like, I guess, being thrown into a role where you had, you know, you had some experience in, but specifically editing, you didn't have too much, is that correct? Yeah, it was very, very much like, like trial by fire. It was like, okay, let's see what I'm learning today. And then it's a lot of like learning on the spot and like learning as you go along. And then I feel like the workflow here is also really different than what you see in like typical productions. And then like one editor is kind of seeing everything through. So I learned a lot really quickly. And then every single day for like the first year and even now, it's like, Oh, wow, I didn't know there are like these kind of features that I could use. And then it's always, it's always something different and new. And there's always like different ways to problem solve. Like for example, if I want like, a lot of like picture and picture editing, you can do like a lot of multicam editing with a lot of different layers. And that kind of like makes it a bit more dynamic and interesting. And then you get a lot more options like that when you're putting a story together. Do you remember your first video that you worked on? My first video was actually during my trial period. It was the dishwashing your keyboards video. Okay, you know what? We'll try it later. Let's have a look at our next board. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but this one's even more full of water than the last one. Let's have a look at the cleanliness though. That is a big improvement. So you know what though, there's still some grunge. So most of it is pretty good. Do you mind grabbing the keypoiler? So what this tells us, Oh, it splashed me right on the crunchy part. Yeah. Yeah. So that, that was a very memorable first video experience. And then I don't, I don't think they even kept a lot of like what I was working on for the cut because I think Alex P. Heady took over afterwards and like cleaned it up and made it like a real video and everything like that. And then put it out. But I thought it was interesting to see the video come out afterwards. I was like, Oh, hey, I remember that footage. I've seen that. And how, how was that experience like? Do you remember like, I don't know, being like overwhelmed or anything? Or did you kind of get it like right away? Oh, it's definitely overwhelming. I think like my entire first year here was pretty overwhelming. It's so much happening and so many new things. And it's just so different than anything that I've ever done before. That it's like, yeah, definitely a roller coaster, but it's so interesting in that way. Right. Yeah. So, so what is it like being an editor for LMG? A lot of it is on the cutting room floor, I'd say. So much of it is like you're, there are these little moments, you know, where you see like behind the scenes that kind of stick with you and make it interesting, even though it will never make it into the video. Like for example, I was looking through some footage the other day, and then I saw frame by frame, a mosquito fly in, land on Linus's face. Stay there for a few moments and then fly away. Like this recently? This was recently. And it was actually, that part was actually in the A-roll of the video that came out. And then it's, it's like those kind of moments where it's like, this is so interesting. I never would pay attention to that kind of thing or notice it. If I'm just watching a video, like casually just for the content, but because it's like I'm paying attention to more aspects of it, it's like, oh, wow, I just saw frame by frame, a mosquito landing. So somebody who goes and washes that video right now, or is it not out yet? Oh, it's totally out. I can, I can find you. Okay, okay. Send me that clip. I'm overly right now. Yeah, it's hilarious. It's so good. Once we fiddled with the pack, charging it could be difficult and or dangerous and spend $2,500 on high current lipo batteries. Okay, speaking of things that don't make it a final cut or like things you notice behind the scenes, what's the craziest thing that we've had to cut out from a video? Oh geez, oh my god, there's so much. Oh my goodness. Then we had to cut out of a video. I feel like we try to leave all the gold in every single video. That might actually take some thinking. What are some examples of videos you've seen recently that are kind of wild? Say yes to everything. There was a lot that was cut off, but it ended up making the Floatplane exclusive. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Because now there are Floatplane exclusives, which is like people will still get to see it, which is totally cool. Oh, there have been times like for a lot of the wilder builds that we do or like the cooling ones that Alexi does, a lot of times like there's so much troubleshooting behind the scenes where it's like, uh-oh, is this actually going to work? And then it's interesting because as we're editing it, we're also along for the ride. It's almost like we're living through the lens all over again. It's like, okay, well they finished shooting the video, so something definitely happened. But is it what they were intending? I think there was one time where they took out the CPU three or four times and then reinserted it. And then it's like, I don't know if it's going to boot. I don't think that. I don't know. But at the end it's like, oh, it's actually working. That's wild. That's totally not expected. So when they finish filming a video, do they just hand you all of the footage without telling you exactly what goes on? We do know. We know that generally, okay, this is what's supposed to happen. This was the idea of the video. And then we knew some sort of troubleshooting happened and some wild things occurred. Right. But then sometimes you don't know exactly what goes on. And then it's just like that kind of thing. Oh, I thought of a different one, but this actually made it into a video. Okay. It was just kind of like wild occurrences in the life of an LMG editor. So then this was way back. I think this wasn't like the first or second year that I was working here. And then I was just editing one day. I was like, oh, is the server down? It's acting kind of funny. And then it's also like, oh, do you smell something? Smells kind of funny. And then all of a sudden, you see David like sprinting by with the fire extinguisher. And then you hear like spraying and everything is like, oh, I guess something's wrong in the server room. And then it was when the server caught fire. Right, right. Yeah, that time. That was super interesting. What's your favorite video you've ever worked on? Oh, favorite one. Oh, hmm, that's tough. I think one of the ones I enjoy looking back on, the secret shopper one with Sarah in it. Yeah, the ones with Sarah in it were super fun. And I think it's just like her reactions to a lot of things. And like the when she did the secret shopper build, where she picked her own parts and everything and put together a PC, I think that was so fun. And so, so hilarious. I love that. Okay, on the flip side, what's the worst video you've ever worked on? Oh, I think I don't know if I can say it's the worst, just because I feel like it was still fun in the end. And I thought it was like still enjoyable. But the ASMR video, I think listening to a lot of people like whispering in your ear for like, day straight, it was a little, it was a little like, weird, was a little intimate. Especially since they're your coworkers, right? Yeah, yeah. And then like, throughout the whole thing, Linus definitely was like, yellow whispering. So then everyone's like, super relaxed and everything. And then Linus is like, then you have to do this. That's like, oh, no. This is super awkward. But okay, I'll go with it. It turned out good in your opinion? I think a lot of it was, like it didn't hit quite right with the audience. But I thought it was super interesting. I thought it was like very different than other stuff that we've done before. And just for that, I think it's worth taking a look at. Yeah. If you were able to pitch an idea to Linus, and he would have to film it, what video would you want him to do? Oh my gosh. Oh, I feel like there have been so many like hilarious ones we've kind of thrown out as jokes in the past. And then there are so many that's like have actually been done. That is like, oh, this was totally a joke. Like the blindfolded ones. That's like, oh, well, there's like, no, no shot. You can actually build something blindfolded. And then there they go is like, oh, okay, well, that's actually happening now. What would be a funny one? Yeah, we usually just throw out like ridiculous ideas. Yeah, that's fair. Have you ever like pitched anything and it's gone to actually filming or anything? Um, I think I've, I've fished short circuits. Like, like which video? I don't think it ever got to filming. But I thought it would be like, if we had a massage chair, that'd be cool. So I was like, hey, Belle, what if we did a ShortCircuit on a massage chair, and then put in the lounge? That's smart. Thank you. I like that. Then we did end up doing a gaming massage. Yeah, the gaming massage chair. I don't know where that lives anymore. But I think there are like some mixed reviews. I think we have it actually in the writer's call room. Everybody complains about how uncomfortable it is. Like it has no lumbar support, nothing. Well, that kind of defeats the purpose of like, oh, relaxation. Right. Yeah. Massage chair, that's a good idea. Right, that, you know, in the lounge. Over lunch, nice little massage. That'd be fun. How's the company changed since you, you first gone here? Because it's, it's been three years, but there's been a lot of changes. Yeah, I remember when I got hired. Um, there was Janice Avon, Sarah and myself as the woman in the company. Right. And then I think I was like, employee number, like within the top 40 to 45. And then now it's like over 100. So just from the time that I've been here, the company's like doubled itself. And it hasn't even been that long, which is the wild part. I feel like at some point I was walking around as like, there are people that I don't recognize anymore, but are probably here every day of the week, just like me. And then I've never seen them before. I was like, Oh no. Can you imagine they're actually here just to steal our stuff? Oh my God. Have you ever thought about, I think about that all the time. Like I, I have the same exact thing. Like again, you walk around, there's people you don't recognize. It's like, I feel like here or not. Yeah, but I feel worse. It's like, if they like have a conversation with me. Yeah. Yeah. I'm never seen you. I'm so sorry. But then I feel awkward because it's like, they know who I am. And then they're talking to me. It's like, should I also know who you are? Have we spoken before? Like, I swear, maybe I've seen you here. Are you in this department, but they're not walking in that department or they're not on their way to that department? Who are you? That kind of thing is like, yeah. Everyday occurrence at some point. How's the editing team changed? You guys have grown, right? Oh, we've grown a lot. Yeah. There's so many of us now. I think there's around like 12 editors. Oh, wow. Yeah. And then when I started here, there were six in the whole editing den. I think six or seven. Right. And that included Ed's all as well. Oh, maybe six without Ed. Okay. Yeah. Six. Yeah. Six. So what we have now is pretty. Yeah. They're like doubled in size. Because there are also some editors that also do all those like shooters, right? Yes. Yeah. So, Glenn and Andrew both spend a lot of time shooting. Who's the best editor at OMG? I know you can. Unless you want him. I know. No, you can't. I don't even know why I had this here. I don't know why it's happening. No, you can't answer it. It's the worst editor at OMG. Oh, no. Um, okay. It might be me because I haven't edited for so long. Because so much of it is just like, I like do planning and scheduling. But you help the editors sometimes edit. So technically, yeah, but you help with your expertise. Sometimes it's like, oh, you want to try that? I was like, oh, hey, I guess so. Sure. Why not? Let's go with it. You know. What's it like working with the editors here? Oh, it's great. They're so great. I love them. They're actually, yeah. Like one of my favorite part of working here is just like the team that I work with is so awesome. And they're all like so capable and always so on top of it. They're so organized and they prioritize their time well. It's really awesome. All of them? Oh, yeah. I'd say like everybody is always, always motivated to kind of put out the best that they can and always try to improve what they're doing, which is really, really awesome just because it's like, it makes it so easy to work with them. Right. What's a word of advice that you'd give someone if they were interested in becoming an editor at OMG? I think a lot of it is practicing. I think if it's in a situation where like, you don't know what to edit or it's like, you don't have any content, then like go to make some. I think a lot of it is also putting together a cohesive story with footage that doesn't exactly go together perfectly is also like something that would be really good to practice. So like if you've done a lot of vlogs or shooting a lot of footage, try to make a vlog out of it like this beginning, middle and end kind of thing. Yeah. Cool. If you could do anything else here at LMG, like Edzel just came in here was like Nicole, we can't have you on the team anymore, but you can remain in the company. Which department would you go? Hmm, which department? I swear it's not because you're here, but I feel like in a social media team would be super fun because I feel like a lot of the stuff that's entertaining as well is also in like the behind the scenes and like the shorts. I feel like are also super fun as well to make. And then it's they're like more like bite size. And then I also like watching a lot of shorts. So then they're just they can pack so much punch in such a little form. Hey, you're welcome to help whenever you want. Have a kiss. Cool. Any last remarks for Flo Plain? I don't know. What do I say? Bye. Bye."}
