I think this is the last one and today","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":4.0,"end_s":8.48,"text":"I'm going to talk to you about my fucking stupid desk and I'm building another one and I shoehorned","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":8.48,"end_s":14.72,"text":"that nice man over there to uh to help me make a new one. I wanted a custom desk for the longest","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":14.72,"end_s":20.88,"text":"time. My office is weird shaped. It's really long. It's really wide. I have weird gangly legs that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":20.88,"end_s":27.12,"text":"hit on you know table legs and things like that and I wanted a new one. I ended up coming across","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":27.2,"end_s":32.56,"text":"this deal of a giant recording console which is super cool and super nice and makes me look like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":32.56,"end_s":37.84,"text":"a neat professional. I'll throw in some b-roll here. There you go. There's some b-roll of what my","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":37.84,"end_s":43.76,"text":"desk looks like currently. You can see the office is pretty giant and it's got this nice mixing","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":43.76,"end_s":47.6,"text":"console in it. There's outboard gear. I got my keyboards and my printers and everything like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":47.6,"end_s":55.68,"text":"that. Unfortunately the desktop is set back and then there's a giant piece of wood like right here","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":55.68,"end_s":62.4,"text":"so I have to sit at it kind of like this. Like my knees don't fit under the desk. It's kind of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":62.4,"end_s":68.08,"text":"important for a desk to be able to be sat under and then because of that strip along the front","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":68.08,"end_s":74.32,"text":"I have about that much room for a mouse and keyboard. So my mouse pad is currently taped to","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":74.32,"end_s":78.96,"text":"a clipboard and I use that as a mouse pad. So I want to get rid of it as cool as it is and as","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":78.96,"end_s":83.2,"text":"cool as it makes me look. I don't really care about that. I'd like something functional.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":83.2,"end_s":88.72,"text":"So I made a new one and we'll have a look at it on the computer. Me being who I am I just modeled","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":88.72,"end_s":93.36,"text":"my entire rooms that I could make it perfectly fit to the quarter inch. I think this is accurate too","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":93.36,"end_s":100.72,"text":"including all of my stuff. So you can see that it now wraps around everywhere. So I've lost the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":100.72,"end_s":106.08,"text":"giant console there and we're going with a completely uninterrupted span including under here.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":106.08,"end_s":112.56,"text":"There's like no legs or anything like that at all. I'm going to move all of the equipment","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":112.56,"end_s":120.08,"text":"into this like 42U like rack thing which will be pretty okay. It'll kind of keep everything exposed.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":120.08,"end_s":126.32,"text":"But I've got like a 52 inch LG C2 is my main monitor mostly because I have to sit so far away","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":126.96,"end_s":132.32,"text":"from it to like sit at the desk. So that's now going to be my main monitor and I replace these","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":132.32,"end_s":138.72,"text":"two super ultra wides with that. So now I can have those back and I figured doing them maybe vertical","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":138.8,"end_s":146.48,"text":"would be kind of cool. My giant goddamn NS1 no HS8s make everything a little bit difficult","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":146.48,"end_s":152.96,"text":"because they need to be in a proper triangle to like actually function. So I don't know. The C24 is","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":152.96,"end_s":160.0,"text":"over here. That's that giant 24 track recording mixer. I got my little fatty computer sub 3D","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":160.0,"end_s":166.64,"text":"printer and then I just put the printer on the floor because I mean it's a printer who cares.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":166.64,"end_s":172.56,"text":"I did some of the calculations for how many cable runs I need and it's like 70 which is a little bit","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":172.56,"end_s":176.64,"text":"of a lot which is one of the reasons why my cable management is one of the worst in the company.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":177.68,"end_s":181.68,"text":"The desk I also can't move. It weighs like 300 pounds with all the gear in it.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":182.8,"end_s":189.2,"text":"So I can't really get behind it to like fix anything. It's terrible. It's cool but it has to go.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":189.2,"end_s":196.32,"text":"So this should be a lot better. There's no legs up front to bang my knees on. So yeah let's go","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":196.32,"end_s":201.68,"text":"over there and we'll have a look at some of the wood. Wood. Wood. Wood. Say it properly. Wood.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":201.68,"end_s":207.28,"text":"Here's the basic drawings. So this one 8 by 4 sheet only it gets cut in half down the middle","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":207.28,"end_s":212.16,"text":"and then that's two desks. You know two 8 foot spans. This one's exactly 8 foot. It's designed for","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":212.16,"end_s":217.04,"text":"8 by 4 and the other one that's split on that right hand side is another one of these just cut","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":217.04,"end_s":224.24,"text":"in two right. So there's a banana for scale. I don't know man. I don't know. I'm sorry.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":225.2,"end_s":229.44,"text":"Yeah so you can see how kind of giant this is going to be. And the middle span here is 81 inches","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":229.44,"end_s":236.0,"text":"wide and I think it's 38 inches deep. I like really deep desks and it's difficult to find","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":236.0,"end_s":242.48,"text":"actual desks that I want. So the only thing to do is custom. The nice thing is that wood like this","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":242.48,"end_s":248.96,"text":"in 8 by 4 is not super expensive. This piece was maybe 120 bucks Canadian. So it's like 45","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":249.28,"end_s":258.0,"text":"US or a hamburger and there's another piece out there. So like 200 bucks for a like 13 foot wide","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":258.0,"end_s":263.76,"text":"desk with two 8 foot long sides on it. It's pretty fine. The steel that we're going to be using is","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":263.76,"end_s":270.32,"text":"this one inch by one inch tube. It's an eighth of an inch thick and this stuff is super common","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":270.32,"end_s":274.8,"text":"and super cheap because it's like a normal nominal size. And so we're going to have two of these.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":274.8,"end_s":278.88,"text":"We'll inset them in about a half inch from the side and then I think they're about two inches","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":278.88,"end_s":283.52,"text":"next to each other. And again that's that fits the bigger one of these and those will just like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":283.52,"end_s":290.0,"text":"stand over there right. So our cables can come in this way and they'll all be contained which","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":290.0,"end_s":294.64,"text":"will be quite nice. And then the other thing is if we want to come outside of the tube we can come","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":294.64,"end_s":302.72,"text":"up this way and then put another one there. Keep everything super neat. And then if we were feeling","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":302.72,"end_s":308.16,"text":"kind of spicy what we could do is drill holes in the middle of that and then we could come directly","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":308.16,"end_s":314.56,"text":"up to the top side of the table with like very neatly managed cables but I don't want to be that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":314.56,"end_s":321.92,"text":"destructive. These will be mounted to the table with screw in like tapped inserty things and then","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":321.92,"end_s":326.4,"text":"these will get holes drilled in them. We're going to do a big hole on top and a small hole on the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":326.4,"end_s":332.64,"text":"bottom sort of like that and then that will captivately trap the nut inside and keep everything","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":332.64,"end_s":338.72,"text":"kind of smooth. Nice and flush. Nice and flush yeah nice and flush and should be easy to do.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":338.72,"end_s":345.12,"text":"Seb had a great idea to set up a jig inside the Tormach. Is it already in there ready to go? No","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":345.12,"end_s":351.68,"text":"I haven't done anything. But I was looking at the metal pieces and I couldn't remember which ones","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":351.68,"end_s":356.24,"text":"did what. The neat thing about the Tormach which Seb knew that I didn't know is both of the side","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":356.24,"end_s":361.36,"text":"Windows can open so we can pass the metal directly through the inside. That's actually a modification","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":361.36,"end_s":368.0,"text":"that I did. Yeah. So our doors now just slide so you can just lift them up and they stay up.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":369.12,"end_s":374.88,"text":"And then what we'll do is we'll set the vise there probably like in the center somewhere.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":376.72,"end_s":381.44,"text":"There we go. We need to pass the tube in and then clamp it down in the same position. They'll","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":381.44,"end_s":387.28,"text":"probably be like a locating pin so that each of the holes can be spaced equally apart. We don't","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":387.28,"end_s":392.32,"text":"have to do any measuring or anything like that and then all we've got to do is just kind of run the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":392.32,"end_s":397.76,"text":"same drill cycle over and over and over again and we can do the entire tubes in like no time at all","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":397.76,"end_s":405.36,"text":"with no thought because thinking is dumb and that is irritating. There's a lot of tube to cut.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":406.56,"end_s":412.72,"text":"A lot of it is going to be supported by squares on the underside but I mean that's an eight foot","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":412.72,"end_s":419.28,"text":"long piece of wood with barely no like it doesn't have any legs in the middle. So what we're going","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":419.28,"end_s":424.32,"text":"to do on the routing table today the CNC router is we're going to run this C-channel or U-channel","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":424.32,"end_s":430.0,"text":"or U-channel through the center and what that should do is give it a bit of strength in the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":430.72,"end_s":436.8,"text":"flexi thing and those will also tie into the squares that will support the outside. So this","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":436.8,"end_s":441.92,"text":"will get inlaid. It will come down about a quarter inch or something like that and then we'll do a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":441.92,"end_s":446.48,"text":"roughing pass on the top. Yeah so this will get inlaid into the surface and should be nice and","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":446.48,"end_s":451.28,"text":"flush and then the one inch by one inch will lay on top of that like that and these will all get","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":451.28,"end_s":456.48,"text":"screwed together at the corners right and then these will get screwed down to something like that.","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":456.48,"end_s":461.6,"text":"We haven't fully figured it out. We'll figure it out later I think and what Seb's doing now","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":461.6,"end_s":466.16,"text":"is he's setting up for the drilling operation so let's pop back over here. The plan is we're","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":466.16,"end_s":471.12,"text":"going to drill a hole here and then once we've drilled the hole we'll slide it over to be lined","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":471.12,"end_s":476.4,"text":"up with this post here and it will line up exactly with the hole we'll clamp it again","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":477.36,"end_s":481.92,"text":"we'll drill another hole it will just keep on lining up like that and we'll have equal spacing","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":481.92,"end_s":488.32,"text":"all the way down and we don't have to do multiple programs we just move it press go go to the next","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":488.32,"end_s":493.84,"text":"one. Yeah we don't even have to measure which is nice and then I guess we transfer the holes into","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":493.84,"end_s":498.8,"text":"the table after we weld it together and kind of do everything and then it'll be fine hands are already","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":498.8,"end_s":507.6,"text":"black. That carbon steel is yeah I've never seen metal this gungee. If you buy it in 24 foot lengths","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":507.6,"end_s":511.12,"text":"which is how it comes out of the factory you don't have to pay for any cutting and then it just kind","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":511.12,"end_s":515.92,"text":"of arrives and so they don't I think even bother to clean it or do anything with it it's never really","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":515.92,"end_s":524.08,"text":"been touched ever. Seb is currently setting up for the routing program. The nice thing about","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":524.08,"end_s":531.28,"text":"doing it like this is if you design something for ease of making it things can be a lot simpler","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":531.28,"end_s":534.48,"text":"like all of the tube bends and things like that are designed to be","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":535.04,"end_s":540.96,"text":"similar lengths and allow for insane tolerances so that we don't have to like do anything perfectly","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":540.96,"end_s":545.36,"text":"nothing needs to be aligned correctly something like these tabletops are designed specifically","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":545.36,"end_s":551.2,"text":"around eight by four sheets which we cut down into easy shapes even with a c-channel routing","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":551.92,"end_s":557.36,"text":"it's the same location on both panels so all we need to do is the same operation and then change","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":557.36,"end_s":561.68,"text":"out the panel and then run the same program so it makes it really easy doing it that way","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":561.68,"end_s":565.44,"text":"it's kind of a more complicated operation but it can still be done with the same bit","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":565.44,"end_s":569.44,"text":"it's two channels down the side and then we're routing out the center to a specific depth so","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":571.04,"end_s":576.08,"text":"not too hard and then that gets repeated twice and then on the same table we can also cut out","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":576.08,"end_s":583.44,"text":"the panels automatically too yeah basically we're going to cut like this then again and then it will","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":583.44,"end_s":592.4,"text":"go yeah it'll be fun it'll be fun it's it's really really awesome having these tools here","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":593.2,"end_s":598.88,"text":"to be able to like play with them when we want to the laser cutter is amazing to have the fact","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":598.88,"end_s":605.12,"text":"that we have tig is also incredible I really like having the sanding booth as well that's kind of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":605.12,"end_s":612.16,"text":"I might want to buy a CNC router for home but like actually justifying a sanding booth is a little","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":612.16,"end_s":617.92,"text":"bit harder the Tormach is also fantastic it's such a useful machine to have I mean we even have a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":617.92,"end_s":625.44,"text":"painting station sick it's so cool it's like I don't know it's a maker's play pen thing","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":626.32,"end_s":630.16,"text":"except when we're getting a ball pit I want a ball pit that would be pretty fun that would be fun","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":630.64,"end_s":637.36,"text":"yeah I do I do woodwork occasionally I don't do too much most of my stuff these days is 3d printing","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":637.36,"end_s":642.72,"text":"rather than being made of wood but you want to drill the other hole and then you can swap it over","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":642.72,"end_s":648.8,"text":"I'm trying to get over there and I don't know how over go over over over the tube or just move the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":648.8,"end_s":660.56,"text":"tube it's stretched pretty tight ergonomics this is where long legs are useful leggy for steppy","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":661.2,"end_s":667.04,"text":"do you also have very very long legs and no torso I don't know it's kind of weird everywhere I have no","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":667.04,"end_s":675.36,"text":"no torso I only am legs baby got only back no no baby got no back no back no back yeah only","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":675.6,"end_s":681.92,"text":"only back of the legs yeah sure I'm changing this bit that's really big to this bit these bits are","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":681.92,"end_s":685.92,"text":"actually awesome they're called compression bits it makes it so that there's no splinters","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":685.92,"end_s":690.48,"text":"because the top of the bit is cutting down and the bottom is cutting up so it kind of just","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":690.48,"end_s":695.36,"text":"squishes the wood and then you don't have stuff that flies up I guess this kind of leads into","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":695.36,"end_s":699.84,"text":"studio furniture in general none of it seems particularly ergonomic I don't think I've ever","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":699.84,"end_s":705.12,"text":"had a studio desk in any studio I've been in that has been comfortable to sit under which is very","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":705.2,"end_s":710.0,"text":"strange because you're often sitting there for like 12 15 hours a day and they're just kind of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":710.56,"end_s":716.24,"text":"not ergonomic I think they may harken back to the good old days when really you were just sitting","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":716.24,"end_s":721.04,"text":"there at only a console and the console was the desk and now we have like mouse and keyboard and","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":721.04,"end_s":726.48,"text":"monitors and things like that I'm sure there's some brands out there that make good ones but","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":726.48,"end_s":730.72,"text":"the most common type is like Argosy and stuff like that and a lot of them are supported in a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":730.72,"end_s":737.04,"text":"strange way that aren't very comfy to sit at it's a piece of work tooling less so like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":739.52,"end_s":746.0,"text":"I guess a comfortable place to be and for me like I'm not doing as much professional work anymore","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":746.64,"end_s":750.56,"text":"I really probably shouldn't have bought this desk in the first place if the price was right it came","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":750.56,"end_s":756.0,"text":"with a bunch of free gear now I understand why because they're like a huge white elephant type of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":756.72,"end_s":764.24,"text":"furniture I guess I just want to be comfy I just want to be comfy and have lots of monitors","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":764.88,"end_s":769.76,"text":"and I mean even even like audio controllers in general they're basically just big mice","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":769.76,"end_s":776.64,"text":"so you don't need one let's look at it go who designed this nice I did extracting thing it has","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":776.64,"end_s":785.44,"text":"issues it needs to be remained don't we all it almost works very well but it doesn't it's better","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":785.52,"end_s":791.04,"text":"than what we had before but it could be better Kyle actually went over this in his video yeah I think this is the last one and today I'm going to talk to you about my fucking stupid desk and I'm building another one and I shoehorned that nice man over there to uh to help me make a new one. I wanted a custom desk for the longest time. My office is weird shaped. It's really long. It's really wide. I have weird gangly legs that hit on you know table legs and things like that and I wanted a new one. I ended up coming across this deal of a giant recording console which is super cool and super nice and makes me look like a neat professional. I'll throw in some b-roll here. There you go. There's some b-roll of what my desk looks like currently. You can see the office is pretty giant and it's got this nice mixing console in it. There's outboard gear. I got my keyboards and my printers and everything like that. Unfortunately the desktop is set back and then there's a giant piece of wood like right here so I have to sit at it kind of like this. Like my knees don't fit under the desk. It's kind of important for a desk to be able to be sat under and then because of that strip along the front I have about that much room for a mouse and keyboard. So my mouse pad is currently taped to a clipboard and I use that as a mouse pad. So I want to get rid of it as cool as it is and as cool as it makes me look. I don't really care about that. I'd like something functional. So I made a new one and we'll have a look at it on the computer. Me being who I am I just modeled my entire rooms that I could make it perfectly fit to the quarter inch. I think this is accurate too including all of my stuff. So you can see that it now wraps around everywhere. So I've lost the giant console there and we're going with a completely uninterrupted span including under here. There's like no legs or anything like that at all. I'm going to move all of the equipment into this like 42U like rack thing which will be pretty okay. It'll kind of keep everything exposed. But I've got like a 52 inch LG C2 is my main monitor mostly because I have to sit so far away from it to like sit at the desk. So that's now going to be my main monitor and I replace these two super ultra wides with that. So now I can have those back and I figured doing them maybe vertical would be kind of cool. My giant goddamn NS1 no HS8s make everything a little bit difficult because they need to be in a proper triangle to like actually function. So I don't know. The C24 is over here. That's that giant 24 track recording mixer. I got my little fatty computer sub 3D printer and then I just put the printer on the floor because I mean it's a printer who cares. I did some of the calculations for how many cable runs I need and it's like 70 which is a little bit of a lot which is one of the reasons why my cable management is one of the worst in the company. The desk I also can't move. It weighs like 300 pounds with all the gear in it. So I can't really get behind it to like fix anything. It's terrible. It's cool but it has to go. So this should be a lot better. There's no legs up front to bang my knees on. So yeah let's go over there and we'll have a look at some of the wood. Wood. Wood. Wood. Say it properly. Wood. Here's the basic drawings. So this one 8 by 4 sheet only it gets cut in half down the middle and then that's two desks. You know two 8 foot spans. This one's exactly 8 foot. It's designed for 8 by 4 and the other one that's split on that right hand side is another one of these just cut in two right. So there's a banana for scale. I don't know man. I don't know. I'm sorry. Yeah so you can see how kind of giant this is going to be. And the middle span here is 81 inches wide and I think it's 38 inches deep. I like really deep desks and it's difficult to find actual desks that I want. So the only thing to do is custom. The nice thing is that wood like this in 8 by 4 is not super expensive. This piece was maybe 120 bucks Canadian. So it's like 45 US or a hamburger and there's another piece out there. So like 200 bucks for a like 13 foot wide desk with two 8 foot long sides on it. It's pretty fine. The steel that we're going to be using is this one inch by one inch tube. It's an eighth of an inch thick and this stuff is super common and super cheap because it's like a normal nominal size. And so we're going to have two of these. We'll inset them in about a half inch from the side and then I think they're about two inches next to each other. And again that's that fits the bigger one of these and those will just like stand over there right. So our cables can come in this way and they'll all be contained which will be quite nice. And then the other thing is if we want to come outside of the tube we can come up this way and then put another one there. Keep everything super neat. And then if we were feeling kind of spicy what we could do is drill holes in the middle of that and then we could come directly up to the top side of the table with like very neatly managed cables but I don't want to be that destructive. These will be mounted to the table with screw in like tapped inserty things and then these will get holes drilled in them. We're going to do a big hole on top and a small hole on the bottom sort of like that and then that will captivately trap the nut inside and keep everything kind of smooth. Nice and flush. Nice and flush yeah nice and flush and should be easy to do. Seb had a great idea to set up a jig inside the Tormach. Is it already in there ready to go? No I haven't done anything. But I was looking at the metal pieces and I couldn't remember which ones did what. The neat thing about the Tormach which Seb knew that I didn't know is both of the side Windows can open so we can pass the metal directly through the inside. That's actually a modification that I did. Yeah. So our doors now just slide so you can just lift them up and they stay up. And then what we'll do is we'll set the vise there probably like in the center somewhere. There we go. We need to pass the tube in and then clamp it down in the same position. They'll probably be like a locating pin so that each of the holes can be spaced equally apart. We don't have to do any measuring or anything like that and then all we've got to do is just kind of run the same drill cycle over and over and over again and we can do the entire tubes in like no time at all with no thought because thinking is dumb and that is irritating. There's a lot of tube to cut. A lot of it is going to be supported by squares on the underside but I mean that's an eight foot long piece of wood with barely no like it doesn't have any legs in the middle. So what we're going to do on the routing table today the CNC router is we're going to run this C-channel or U-channel or U-channel through the center and what that should do is give it a bit of strength in the flexi thing and those will also tie into the squares that will support the outside. So this will get inlaid. It will come down about a quarter inch or something like that and then we'll do a roughing pass on the top. Yeah so this will get inlaid into the surface and should be nice and flush and then the one inch by one inch will lay on top of that like that and these will all get screwed together at the corners right and then these will get screwed down to something like that. We haven't fully figured it out. We'll figure it out later I think and what Seb's doing now is he's setting up for the drilling operation so let's pop back over here. The plan is we're going to drill a hole here and then once we've drilled the hole we'll slide it over to be lined up with this post here and it will line up exactly with the hole we'll clamp it again we'll drill another hole it will just keep on lining up like that and we'll have equal spacing all the way down and we don't have to do multiple programs we just move it press go go to the next one. Yeah we don't even have to measure which is nice and then I guess we transfer the holes into the table after we weld it together and kind of do everything and then it'll be fine hands are already black. That carbon steel is yeah I've never seen metal this gungee. If you buy it in 24 foot lengths which is how it comes out of the factory you don't have to pay for any cutting and then it just kind of arrives and so they don't I think even bother to clean it or do anything with it it's never really been touched ever. Seb is currently setting up for the routing program. The nice thing about doing it like this is if you design something for ease of making it things can be a lot simpler like all of the tube bends and things like that are designed to be similar lengths and allow for insane tolerances so that we don't have to like do anything perfectly nothing needs to be aligned correctly something like these tabletops are designed specifically around eight by four sheets which we cut down into easy shapes even with a c-channel routing it's the same location on both panels so all we need to do is the same operation and then change out the panel and then run the same program so it makes it really easy doing it that way it's kind of a more complicated operation but it can still be done with the same bit it's two channels down the side and then we're routing out the center to a specific depth so not too hard and then that gets repeated twice and then on the same table we can also cut out the panels automatically too yeah basically we're going to cut like this then again and then it will go yeah it'll be fun it'll be fun it's it's really really awesome having these tools here to be able to like play with them when we want to the laser cutter is amazing to have the fact that we have tig is also incredible I really like having the sanding booth as well that's kind of I might want to buy a CNC router for home but like actually justifying a sanding booth is a little bit harder the Tormach is also fantastic it's such a useful machine to have I mean we even have a painting station sick it's so cool it's like I don't know it's a maker's play pen thing except when we're getting a ball pit I want a ball pit that would be pretty fun that would be fun yeah I do I do woodwork occasionally I don't do too much most of my stuff these days is 3d printing rather than being made of wood but you want to drill the other hole and then you can swap it over I'm trying to get over there and I don't know how over go over over over the tube or just move the tube it's stretched pretty tight ergonomics this is where long legs are useful leggy for steppy do you also have very very long legs and no torso I don't know it's kind of weird everywhere I have no no torso I only am legs baby got only back no no baby got no back no back no back yeah only only back of the legs yeah sure I'm changing this bit that's really big to this bit these bits are actually awesome they're called compression bits it makes it so that there's no splinters because the top of the bit is cutting down and the bottom is cutting up so it kind of just squishes the wood and then you don't have stuff that flies up I guess this kind of leads into studio furniture in general none of it seems particularly ergonomic I don't think I've ever had a studio desk in any studio I've been in that has been comfortable to sit under which is very strange because you're often sitting there for like 12 15 hours a day and they're just kind of not ergonomic I think they may harken back to the good old days when really you were just sitting there at only a console and the console was the desk and now we have like mouse and keyboard and monitors and things like that I'm sure there's some brands out there that make good ones but the most common type is like Argosy and stuff like that and a lot of them are supported in a strange way that aren't very comfy to sit at it's a piece of work tooling less so like I guess a comfortable place to be and for me like I'm not doing as much professional work anymore I really probably shouldn't have bought this desk in the first place if the price was right it came with a bunch of free gear now I understand why because they're like a huge white elephant type of furniture I guess I just want to be comfy I just want to be comfy and have lots of monitors and I mean even even like audio controllers in general they're basically just big mice so you don't need one let's look at it go who designed this nice I did extracting thing it has issues it needs to be remained don't we all it almost works very well but it doesn't it's better than what we had before but it could be better Kyle actually went over this in his video yeah I wouldn't watch that it's like 15 hours long isn't it two hours okay we're trying to get this snappy table uh big table bad sebb table good I don't know float play do this in 16 by 9 hey float talk did you know that big table bad and small table good followed for more cryptocurrency advice so sebb has honed the cnc router now and we're about ready to cut this is pretty exciting hope he programmed it right don't jinx us like this if you see the dust that it leaves behind it shows how it mostly works but it leaves a lot so there's not any dust in the air but it doesn't pick up everything so it doesn't fit right now basically just just the tiniest amount more so just gonna edit the program a bit and run it again and it should work fine all right it looks like our first couple passes are done we maybe have one more to go but it fits now it's really nice there's not absolutely no play along the side which is awesome it just needs to go a little bit deeper to be perfectly flush but it's like it's very very close and so one bar will go all the way along there and it'll get screwed in and it'll be super sturdy and nice so that's very exciting hopefully it doesn't rust and destroy my knees i think that's probably about it sebb and i will be back here on saturday to continue if we recorded some b-roll it will be here we'll put it over here this time the completed table i hope it was completed on saturday if not we'll continue in the week and i guess we'll throw it in there too if you want to watch the other two i think they're up before this one this will be the last one i'm sorry goodbye uh yeah i don't know thanks for subscribing to Floatplane you're a good floaties and have a good float"}
