Um, past the amazing pipe that we've got, we put up some fans. These are only intake, because exhaust was doing absolutely nothing. Sammy: Hahahaha. Plouffe: Originally what we were going to do was you can buy these, um, like home HVAC, like grates that actually have fans built in and they push more air out of it. Um, you can just buy those, but we thought that was kind of lame. Sammy: Mmmm. Plouffe: Uh, so we just put some computer fans in. Plouffe: What else did we do? We built these shelves, these drawers. Sammy: You built those? Plouffe: Yeah, so Sebastian did. Plouffe: This whole thing was a giant team effort; I cannot take credit for all of it at all. Alex Dick got the contracting done to help move the wall; because where Sammy is right now, where he's filming from, that all got pushed back; so we didn't have all that extra space at the start. We had to tear down the wall and move the whole kitchenette back, and it was totally worth it. Cost a good amount of money, but it was totally worth it. Sammy: Hahahaha. Plouffe: Um yeah, we've got a bunch of storage drawers back here. Cause we had no idea what to do with the weird triangular space? As the angles kind of meet. Um, we're just like, well we can put decorations in there, you know; but it's kind of boring, so Sebastian had this great idea of putting in drawers. So he built up those and installed them, and they look great. Sammy: Yeah, they look really good. Plouffe: Yeah, they look really good, they function really well; there's a bunch of stuff in here, chips, controllers, stuff like that. I've got, I threw a sleeping bag in the bottom one for a little added touching. I mean hey, Sammy you know, if you're stuck here; you get locked in the lab for whatever reason? And you can't go home? You can, you can sleep in here. Sammy: They look really good. Plouffe: You can even use, you can use my sleeping bag; and you can sleep in here, because we put gym mats on the floor, so it's a lot more comfortable than when it was, just concrete? Sammy: Mhmm. Plouffe: And then the gym mats looked kind of ugly, so I found a rug that fits the space almost perfectly, and put the rug over top. Um, so yeah it's actually like pretty comfortable. Like I walk around- I crawl around in here to do a bunch of finishing touches, and it was like totally fine; my knees did not get destroyed. Crawling in and out of the space at the start absolutely sucked. Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: Even without the dishwasher door, uh, kind of taking up some space; your knees, man, I'm telling- Oh my god, it was really brutal. Um, we put a hook up for hanging stuff; backpack, hanging the day pack. Pass me my backpack. Pass it to me, we put this in the video but it's going to, I'm going to do it again. Sammy: Hahahaha. We we're really running out of time, and this was a long project to be clear; like we had a lot of time to get all this done, but um, it was kind of happening in the background for me, because I was doing the CPU reviews during all of this. So it kind of got you know, delegated. But they did a really good job otherwise. But yeah, you've got to turn them on in sequence; so you turn on like for instance, the star has to get turned on first and then you turn the brightness, like all the way down on it? Then you can turn on the other two; because we can't run both the game on sign, and the controller sign, and the star sign all at full brightness? It just won't do it. There was a power outage over the weekend, so they all turned off and I haven't had time to like properly power them all back up; same thing with these ones. I think you turn the question mark block sign on first, turn it all the way down, and then the arcade sign, and then the bullet bill sign. Sammy: Hahahaha. Plouffe: Same with the shy guy actually, the shy guy can be turned down as well; so you've got to like turn them all down. Any, any that can be adjusted, turn them all down; then turn the others on. We had a few more RGB signs. Like there's this empty space here? and I really wanted to put just one or two more signs there, but we just can't. It's just, we literally can't. I love these panels, they do work really well; but when you're putting them on the ceiling instead of on the walls, and you can see this if you've watched like any of our office tours where we look up, Plouffe: they don't stay stuck vertically very well. Plouffe: But this actually helped quite a bit. Originally, when it was just concrete and drywall inside here; it echoed so bad, the audio in here was terrible. Now it's like not bad, especially with like the cloud, with the foam, and with all the shelves and stuffies, and other just whatever- The big pillow you know, all that stuff really helps kind of just deaden the sound quite a bit, so that was nice. Plouffe: What else do we do? Sammy: Can you tell me about, anything about why it's like this? Plouffe: Oh yeah. Sammy: Like why is it a steel case, not like a regular case? Plouffe: So originally when we, I also got sick during this project and the contractors came when I was out basically all week. I was either taking the day off or I was working from home, and I wasn't around to like answer any questions for them; so two things they did that could have been slightly different. I was hoping to have these vents up a little higher, but we also thought it was for exhaust. So it actually kind of worked out once we switched it to intake, but then the bulkhead over here, we originally thought that they were going to just put a box above the plumbing; because the kitchenette still works. Sammy: Mmmm. Plouffe: Like you can go and turn the tap on, use the microwave or whatever is out there. The electrical and the plumbing all work still. And that's just below where the computer sits now; and so we thought they were just going to put a box over that stuff, and then not go all the way to the ceiling. But then they went all the way to the ceiling, and so we wanted to reclaim some of the space, and we actually ripped out. We drilled, did a borescope or something to see what was inside and where the pipes wer; and then drill, I don't know, Alex Dick cut out a bunch of the drywall to then put the computer there, to save more space. Because if we didn't, where would the computer go? Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: Right? It would go like here, which I mean, it's not- I don't know, there's not enough space. Plouffe: Right now, it feels roomy. Sammy: It does, yeah. Plouffe: Like it honestly feels pretty spacious. Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: We could fit more people in here, and it'd be pretty comfortable still; at least one or two more people. And you could game in here, no problem. Sammy: Not this video though. Plouffe: Not this video. Sammy: That's really cool, I didn't know it was going to open like that. Plouffe: Yeah, right? Plouffe: No, so it's easy access; and we put all the IO on this side to make sure you can just like plug and play whatever you want. The only thing is the power switch is kind of on the other side. So you've got to like pull the computer out a bit, get your ARM really in there and then turn it on; which I had to do today, because of the power outage. For who did everything, like Justin did a lot of this. Sammy: Shoutout. Plouffe: Yeah, shoutout Justin. He helped quite a bit with basically everything, like all the wiring, putting the RGB up. Same with Reece; Reece helped a lot with the RGB signs and stuff like that. And just like mounting the monitor to the wall, we used French cleats to get it as close as we could. We originally wanted to cut into the wall, and mount this so it was like flush with the drywall. Sammy: That'd be really cool. Plouffe: We realized a couple things though. One, the studs back here are probably structural, because it's a staircase, right? So we couldn't really cut into them without risking anything. And the drywall alone was only going to save us like a quarter inch, half inch at most. To get it actually flush, we'd have to cut into the studs, and we weren't willing to do that. Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: So we used French cleats and we got it pretty close. Sammy: Still cool though. Plouffe: Oh yeah, it's still super cool. And like you know, unlike a normal monitor ARM, it's not like out another like a couple of inches or whatever, because of the giant mount. Works really well. Holds a ton of weight, I think our cleats were rated to like a hundred pounds or something. As for what's left, it was mostly decoration. I just kind of, you know, I've got a ton of plushies. We have a bunch from work, like- I don't know, tiny CPU pillows, the bananas, the ShortCircuit bananas; I thought that really helped tie the room together, almost as much as the rug really helped tie the whole room together. And then the shelves that Sebastian made, that are above Sammy. Sammy: Yeah? Plouffe: Do a weird thing to show them. Sammy: Oh, I'll put B-roll there. Plouffe: Show them the- Sammy: Hahahahaha. Plouffe: Yeah, there you go, the shelves. The shelves that Sebastian helped me, uh- Helped create and install; we put a bunch of just old consoles up there. Linus wanted, I think what was his, what was his instructions? Kind of maximalist with some like 80s - 90s teenage bedroom, basically. So through a bunch of plushies, and through a bunch of old consoles, throw some like fake Pokemon cards from a bunch- I basically just went over to our set deck area over in the studio, grabbed whatever I thought worked, plus my- I took a bunch of stuff from home, like a bunch of this stuff is mine. So I don't know, take, take whatever you will from that. Um, but I- I just came in, finally you know set up the last few stuff, made sure that things were placed thoughtfully. So for instance, the couch master here, wireless peripherals by the way, just to make your life a little easier. Um, it fits perfectly on the bottom shelf, right in between all the plushies. Sammy: Like here? Plouffe: Yeah. Sammy: Oh. Plouffe: So you can put this away, and then easily go up and grab it when you want to game. Sammy: That's cool, this is really cool. Plouffe: Yeah. Sammy: I think this is really cool. Plouffe: Right? Sammy: I was, I was, I remember we planned this like last- Basically last year, right? Plouffe: Yeah, so okay, so my one... my one big annoyance with this; that, you know, we're not going to say in the video, but for float, for Floatplane, we'll tell you guys. Yes, of course we saw, I can't remember who did it, but that video with the under the stairs, um work area or whatever? Do you know what I'm talking about? Sammy: No. Plouffe: Okay well, buddy did a really good job, and it was frustrating because we had planned this like months before his video even came out. So we probably- Honestly, cause that probably took him a long time; we probably both had like that exact kind of stroke of genius moment. And we're like, let's put a gaming set up under the stairs. Uh, but his came out first; because ours kept getting pushed back. Multiple reasons, Origin took a while to give us the computer. Like I said, I got sick at one point; CPU reviews, all the hardware started coming out, so I was busy with reviews, and it just kept getting pushed down the road. Contractors had to come in, move the wall. Like all this stuff took so much time, right? Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: Um, so I'm, I guarantee you when the video goes up, I'm going to see a bunch of comments who are like, blah, blah, \"this person did it first\", blah, blah. They did. Sammy: Well, they didn't invent it. Plouffe: Shoutout, shoutout to them. Yeah. Well, they did a good job. I can't, I wish I could remember who it was. Um but yeah, otherwise I'm pretty, I'm really happy with it. I'm honestly super jazzed with how it turned out. It's very comfortable, like even with the giant dog bed pillow; like my feet, like I have, like they're barely touching the wall and I'm like 5'7''. I'm like Linus's height, I'm not very tall; but um, I'm also you know, not sitting, like I can go way back more. Um, just tons of room. Like, I don't know. We, we originally thought that we were going to have way less space in here; but like even filming, we were worried about filming in here because of uh, just how limited all the space was. We thought we'd have to get a different lens and all this, and uh, no, it turned out to be totally fine. And of course we've got our mini fridge. Sammy: Oh yeah, is there anything in here? Sammy: I never opened it yet. Plouffe: There's Red Bull. Sammy: Wha!? Sammy: So this is where they all went? Plouffe: That's where they all went. Sammy: Hahahahaha. Sammy: Wait it's lukewarm Plouffe: That's because the power was out! Plouffe: I just turned the fridge back on. Sammy: Oh, okay. Plouffe: The power went out on Saturday, it's been out all weekend. Plouffe: Luckily it was just RedBull in there, so it's not going bad. It was you know, no one left their lunch in there or anything, but no, it's honestly so good. Uh, everyone comes in here and they just love it. Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: Um, I haven't yet, but I am probably going to bring my laptop in here and just like work at some point? because why not? It's pretty great. Sammy: It's a comfy space. Plouffe: Yeah, it's comfy, cozy, I love it. Plouffe: Um, we're not tearing it down. Sammy: Oh yeah, I was going to ask if we're ever going to tear it down. Plouffe: We're probably not going to; at this point, I'm going to take the stuff that's mine back. Sammy: Of course. Plouffe: So like there's some fake plants up at the top; I use those for basing in, uh, like Warhammer minis. I've got a bunch of the plushies; those are mine, so I'll take those home. But otherwise, like all the RGB signage, the like LED cloud stuff aside from you know, where the sprinkler is; so about there we'll chop it. Um, everything's going to stay. And if anyone wants to use the room, for whatever they want, you know, game on your lunch break, hang out and do some work from a nice cozy environment. It's really like comfortable, like the fans actually push a pretty good amount of air. Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: Um, you know, feel free; go ahead and use it. Just leave your shoes at the door, please; cause it's a shoe free zone. Sammy: Oh, I did not know that. Plouffe: You took your shoes off. Sammy: Well, I saw it- Cause I did it cause you did this today. Plouffe: Yeah. Sammy: I came in here a few days ago. Plouffe: Yeah. Sammy: To take a picture. Sammy: I didn't, I didn't react to anything but I had my shoes on. Plouffe: Okay, well. Sammy: We should put a \"no shoes\". Plouffe: Yeah, I should put a no shoes sign. Um, the dishwasher door that was, God whose idea was the dishwasher door? I can't remember, all I know is we had to make a decision. Plouffe: The dishwasher was already just not working, and so Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: we weren't worried about destroying it, cause it's already broken. Um, but it was either take the door off and crawl through the door, or cut the back out and crawl through the whole dishwasher. Linus kind of wanted to crawl through the whole dishwasher, but we talked him out of it. Plouffe: It would just be so uncomfortable. Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: Like, cause we can't, you know, we could pad it a little bit, but then it's like, it's just hard to work with as well. And you get a little more constricted in terms of the space. Sammy: Mmmm. Plouffe: Um, but one of my favorite parts that Justin took care of, we went to the foam store, we bought some extra firm foam and then we upholstered it to both uh, go on top of the dishwasher door and then in the entryway after; so you don't just destroy your knees as you crawl in. Sammy: I was going to ask you what like, is there anything cool about these Windows? Plouffe: Oh yeah. Plouffe: So Linus had, he wanted- god, he was like, I want like five things; I want like five things that we can show the people, that are like either techie, or like space saving or whatever. And so one was the drawers, one was the shelves, one was the door for Origin, one was the door to get in; that's kind of, and then the French cleats was another one. So that was kind of enough. Um, but what he really wanted was some window that he could look out. So we got this like window tint that is switchable; you just run a voltage through it and then it becomes clear or opaque. Sammy: That's cool. Plouffe: Yeah, I think it becomes clear when it has voltage and opaque when it's not powered? And so, we click a switch up there and then you know, you take the flap out. cause without, with the- Without the flap, the ton of light just goes through and it just looks weird. Um, but you do that and then you can look through it as a peephole. The one problem was you know, a random gray square in the wall just looks stupid. Sammy: Yeah. Plouffe: Like what would you think if you saw that, right? Plouffe: Uh, so someone else, I don't, I can't remember if it was Alex or Justin, um, or Reece or someone else entirely; who thought, hey we should put like LTT Store products around the TV that's out there. And then this gray square looks like PTM7950. Sammy: That's pretty smart. Plouffe: And then bada bing, bada boom, there it is. So now it actually looks, it doesn't look stupid when you look from outside.
