00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:05,905
Plouffe: What is up, Floatplane? My name is Plouffe and I'm here to present to you how do we make LMPs, 2 00:00:05.905 --> 00:00:10.610 or as we like to call them, Linus Media Productions. You may have seen Linus in a 3 00:00:10.610 --> 00:00:15.682 number of videos that aren't on LTT. That's because we also get paid by sponsors to basically 4 00:00:15.682 --> 00:00:20.954 make commercials for them. Today we're going to talk about our involvement with MSI and how Linus 5 00:00:20.954 --> 00:00:26.626 ended up helping launch the announcement of their 50 series graphics cards, specifically 6 00:00:26.626 --> 00:00:30.463 their new Vanguard lineup. It starts with the business team. 7 00:00:30.463 --> 00:00:35.435 I'm Shahrad, I'm the Senior Account Lead on the business team here at Linus Media Group. 8 00:00:35.435 --> 00:00:41.441 So usually how these projects start is either I reach out to a brand and try to set something 9 00:00:41.441 --> 00:00:46.713 up that I think will be cool for them, or the brands mostly reach out to us and ask 10 00:00:46.713 --> 00:00:53.019 us to make a video for them for either their product page, whatever internal use, 11 00:00:53.019 --> 00:00:58.558 or in the specific case that we're using, the video that we made for MSI. They want it for 12 00:00:58.558 --> 00:01:03.830 their launch event video during CES, which is pretty cool. So let's talk about this specific 13 00:01:03.830 --> 00:01:09.736 project. I had an MSI reach out to me a couple months ago telling me about this opportunity. 14 00:01:09.736 --> 00:01:14.774 I thought it was pretty cool. GPUs, who doesn't like them? Especially if they're a brand new 15 00:01:14.774 --> 00:01:20.780 generation, we got to see them pretty early, which is pretty cool. So I talked to the writers, 16 00:01:20.780 --> 00:01:25.752 specifically James, and basically was like, hey, does this seem like something we want to do? 17 00:01:26.386 --> 00:01:33.493 It's pretty straightforward. Are we interested? He said, heck yes. I went back to MSI, locked in 18 00:01:33.493 --> 00:01:41.434 the contract, and then went back to James with clear deliverable expectations and when they 19 00:01:41.434 --> 00:01:46.873 needed the video for. And that helped them basically pick a writer to assign this project to 20 00:01:46.873 --> 00:01:52.212 so we could work together and get this done. Usual deliverables, I would say are one to two 21 00:01:52.212 --> 00:01:58.952 minute long videos for a brand's internal use on their website. Yeah, so it's usually not that 22 00:01:58.952 --> 00:02:05.024 complex of a video considering the usual videos that we worked on that we want to release on our 23 00:02:05.024 --> 00:02:09.829 own channels. This one's pretty straightforward. Usually how it works, the brand gives us the 24 00:02:09.829 --> 00:02:16.136 talking points slash skeleton structure of the script, any guidelines that have any special 25 00:02:16.136 --> 00:02:22.142 requests for the video. And I basically take everything and take it to the writer, in this 26 00:02:22.142 --> 00:02:27.514 case, ploof, dump all the information there. And they get to work and they write out the script 27 00:02:27.514 --> 00:02:32.719 and build a whole thing around whoever's going to be hosting the video in this case, Linus, 28 00:02:32.719 --> 00:02:38.591 because if you saw half the scripts brand send us that don't look that good. 29 00:02:38.591 --> 00:02:45.265 Plouffe: I get all of thetalking points they want. And unlike a sponsored video that would be on LTT, this is kind of it. 30 00:02:45.265 --> 00:02:50.069 We don't pick and choose what we're doing. We don't edit it too much. We'll take the general 31 00:02:50.069 --> 00:02:54.474 flow. Sometimes they have more and sometimes they have less, but whatever we've been given, 32 00:02:54.474 --> 00:02:59.746 we just kind of work with that and create a solid script that Linus will then shoot. At this point, 33 00:02:59.746 --> 00:03:04.717 once the script is done, we send it back to brand to make sure that they've got no issues with it, 34 00:03:04.717 --> 00:03:11.457 because ideally in a perfect world, we just write it, shoot it and give it to them. And that's it, no fixes 35 00:03:11.457 --> 00:03:17.330 Shahrad: So once the video is done, I get a draft from the production team and send it to the 36 00:03:17.330 --> 00:03:22.535 brand. And basically we're checking to see if all the guidelines were followed. If we hit all the 37 00:03:22.535 --> 00:03:27.674 talking points, sometimes there are stupid little fixes like, oh, the lighting in the background 38 00:03:27.674 --> 00:03:32.378 wasn't the color we were expecting. I'm not even joking. Like sometimes they get back to us with 39 00:03:32.378 --> 00:03:37.517 that. At this point, there shouldn't be any fixes because of all the steps we've taken before 40 00:03:37.517 --> 00:03:41.988 producing the video. And in this specific case, there weren't that many fixes because again, 41 00:03:41.988 --> 00:03:47.594 we went through all the steps to make sure that we can do this in one go. And then once the fixes 42 00:03:47.594 --> 00:03:53.199 are done, I get a high quality version of the file, put that bad boy in Google Drive and send 43 00:03:53.199 --> 00:03:58.638 a brand a link to the set drive. And once they received a link to the Google Drive, 44 00:03:59.739 --> 00:04:05.578 it's out of our hands. The project's been delivered and it's payday baby. I worked with 45 00:04:05.578 --> 00:04:10.550 the accounting team to send them an invoice and we're good. So you're probably wondering why we 46 00:04:10.550 --> 00:04:14.954 go through all this song and dance trying to do LMPs if the videos don't even end up on our 47 00:04:15.521 --> 00:04:20.793 channels. Some people might not even know they exist at the end of the day. The simple answer is 48 00:04:21.761 --> 00:04:26.699 it's Linus Media Group. We're a media company. So we're trying to expand our 49 00:04:26.699 --> 00:04:32.939 portfolio of things we do because we're not just a YouTuber company. We're not just a YouTube channel 50 00:04:32.939 --> 00:04:36.943 and what a media company does is media productions, 51 00:04:36.943 --> 00:04:42.081 even though it's not going to go on our YouTube channel. Also, it doesn't hurt that they pay us 52 00:04:42.081 --> 00:04:47.520 to do it. So it's a win-win. Thank you guys for watching. I hope you guys enjoyed it. 53 00:04:48.855 --> 00:04:53.426 If you did enjoy it and you want to learn more about how we make LTT videos, 54 00:04:53.426 --> 00:05:02.669 make sure you check that one on FlowPlane as well. And just have a fantastic day.
