For most of the things that we do here, we actually use SOLIDWORKS, which is great because we've got version control and we can share the files between teams and keep on working off of each other. But for something like this where it's going to be a lot of surface modeling, and it's going to be not a final product and prototype, I'm going to use a software called Rhino 8. The process of modeling it will be pretty simple and very similar to what we were talking about before where if you take a picture from the side and trace the outline of the shoe, but because I've got a 3D model of it, or I will have a 3D model of it, it will be able to be even quicker and easier to make it mesh together. After we've got the 3D model, it's going to be sticking out on a 3D printer and for this video, we're going to try it on a few different things just to show them off. For this video, we've got actually a few different things we're going to print it on. We've got our Fuse SLS printer here and the associated not sandblaster cleaning station. And then we've also got our wall of FDM printers that I will probably be printing on a bamboo. And the last one we'll use is the Rapidea Metal 3D printer that we've got in the other building. What have you got? What have you got? A couple different options. Okay. We've got the FDM printed ones on the bamboo. We have the ones printed on the SLS on the Fuse. And then we kind of have metal ones. Okay, these are lethal. These are lethal, but I love them. And they kind of hold together. We ran out of welding gas and the timeline of this video means we don't have any gas. And they could do some serious damage, which I'm not opposed to, but I'm not sure it's right for this boot. No. Yeah. What's the difference between these two? Mostly the process. This one is basically made out of a bunch of powder that a laser goes by and fuses it together. And then this one is kind of like a hot glue gun where it just extrudes material and builds it up. Okay. And tell me about the trees. Yeah. So this one, because it's a bunch of powder and it goes up layer by layer, you don't need any support. And it actually comes out like this or there's still rough and it's called armor, but you have to sandblast it off. Oh yeah. I can see that. And once you sandblast it off, then it looks like this. These, because it's extruding up from the bottom, you need something to support the top or else it would just kind of drip and fall over. So that's what these tree supports are and you can pop them off. And do you have to design those or is that, does that happen? Nope. The slicer just automatically does it, but then you can just pop them off. Oh that looks like fun. Can I, can I do something? Yep. Yep. It's also easy to pop the teeth off in this one. Am I really weak? Yeah. And once they actually start going, it's actually not bad, but it's getting it detached from the top that's, here I loosened it for you. And then this is one where it has none of the support on. I think we're going to have to chrome like paint one of these. Which one do you think is going to take the paint better? This one's probably going to be the nicest. The layer lines are smaller and it's probably easier. We also have, this is a dyed of the same print. So this is how it comes out of the printer initially. And then this is just with some fabric dye, RIT. Really? Yep. And then it makes it black. Or blacker. Oh, cool. Yeah. Okay. Well, so we can use, we'll paint one of these then. Yes. And then actually, interesting thing with the fuse prints. So this is printed off, not dyed or anything. But then if you actually cut into it, it is black, like the plastic's black. It's just that the surface texture makes it look gray. What are we going to do with all of these though? I feel like we need to do a separate project with all of these. I don't know. I don't think we had any plan. Oh, look, I can do. I just was doing it the wrong way. There you go. Other thing with the metal one, since we have it, the, so these ones were all printed together With the process that the metal ones are printed, when it goes into the sintering furnace, it has the consistency of warm plasticine. So if you printed it like this, it would droop down. And the fun thing with printing metal is the support is also metal. So if you do support like this inside the teeth, it's going to be really fun to take out. It's possible, but you have to be more clever about it. I'm probably stronger than me. You need an angle grinder. So, but yeah, so that's why they're printed like this. And we would have welded them together, but. Are these solid or are these hollow? Same as with these ones, they've got, these ones have 25% infill, so they're mostly hollow. So they're lighter than they should be. They're still a good weight though. They're still very aggressive. So it was painting time? I think it's painting time. We'll paint these ones, which means this one has to be sandblasted, which I guess we can get B roll for that. You can see part of the armor here that's been sandblasted off, and then this hasn't been sandblasted. The purpose of that, we think is kind of to do with heat dissipation. We're not 100% sure they haven't told us, but yeah, you get kind of a crust on the outside of the print, and it just sandblasts off. These are actually also fairly. They're all sharp. I've stabbed myself a few times. I mean, violence wasn't necessarily, I mean, it wasn't in the brief, but it's definitely a little extra. It looks kind of sick with that little like, with a little bit of like a gradation, yeah. That paint actually looks like it's not bad. It's actually really good. I think it looks, I think let's leave it like that for a moment and then see. Do another layer after. Yeah. I was part of the team that spray painted the wings for a very impressive movie called Tooth Fairy with Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Are you serious? Yes. Would I lie to you? No. That's sick. Yeah, serious. Many years ago. Yeah. I think working in a shoe factory in Transylvania was pretty cool too. Yeah. I don't know. It got me on the spot. But I think, like I just started to clear what. Six months ago, seven months ago. I think I'm going to get a lot more of those. I think it's longer than six months. You tired of me already? Yeah. I didn't think these would come out in real school, but it's like already off. It's pure skills, man, pure skills. I think that's pretty good. I think those. They look good to me. Yeah. I'm excited. Do you think they'll actually, can I stand in them? Do you think I'll actually, like, if I stand in my tippy toes? I would stand in, like, 50 percent? I wouldn't trust your whole weight on them. I just, I'll just walk in my tippy toes. Yeah. That should be fine. I'm used to these kind of high boots. It's all good. Off camera, I cut this boot a few days ago just to test fit the prints and stuff. And now we're just going to band saw this heel off, sit down and get it ready to glue the heel on. There we go. Now we just have to sand it down. The band saw blade has to be replaced. What do you want to stick them with? Normally use something like epoxy or something for this, but we're just going to use some hot glue because that's what this project is like. So which one? They're not quite symmetrical, right? No, there's a left and a right. And those will go there. This is all my fine boots dreams come true. And this is the before heel. Yeah. One of the other options that we had, if we didn't want to paint them, is to do something like electroplating. Now, we didn't realize that we actually had an electroplating kit. And in a very simplistic way, it's basically just a transfer of metal ions via a solution from a positive electrode to a negative one. So if we ever want to do something further, let us know in the comments and we can do something like electroplating. We even have something like anyone in whoever taken a beginner, a chemistry level class will know copper to sulfate pentahydrates. So I mean, the possibilities are in this. One of the things I did while designing this was I gave a relief along the edge to try and hide the seam better. What we're going to do is we're just going to run some glue here and call it a day. This mini hot glue gun isn't the best either, but you can just put hot glue on it with a torch instead of using the hot glue gun. So on the metal ones, that would work well. Just put a bunch of glue, hit it with a torch, heat it up. I'm so excited about these, look at them. So I mean, they actually feel pretty sturdy. They, I mean, for essentially a prototype, they are, they're amazing. Yeah, they're sick. They're so sick. This is super short. I'm really curious to see how they, how they are when you actually wear them. Lisa, you want to give them a spin? Oh yeah. Those are sick. They look so good. They look so good. Yeah.
