ago","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":126.799,"end_s":131.68,"text":"and a couple of weeks ago the power brick just died and then it didn't work","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":130.72,"end_s":137.44,"text":"anymore do you know what this is i'm guessing that's a motherboard that is a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":134.8,"end_s":141.36,"text":"motherboard there's an rg crosshair 8 hero this has basically all the stuff","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":143.76,"end_s":151.76,"text":"all right so we've got our power supply rog 4 850 watt platinum there was a","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":149.84,"end_s":156.56,"text":"cooler in there as well your graphics card which you did get and your would","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":168.72,"end_s":175.92,"text":"you like uh just kidding you get both of them what uh i think it's gonna be fun i","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":174.16,"end_s":180.0,"text":"haven't ever built a pc or really watched a whole lot of videos on how to","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":177.599,"end_s":183.28,"text":"build a pc but i have a general idea of like","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":180.8,"end_s":186.319,"text":"the sequence they should go in but i definitely don't know how to do it in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":184.72,"end_s":189.76,"text":"the most optimal way so tell me something michael how did you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":188.08,"end_s":193.36,"text":"prepare yourself for your build challenge today","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":191.68,"end_s":197.84,"text":"well i asked my brother who has a lot more experience with this kind of thing what i should do to prepare and he said","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":196.239,"end_s":203.68,"text":"you're probably best just going and letting them show you how to do it properly did you watch any previous rog","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":201.28,"end_s":208.4,"text":"rig reboots i didn't did your brother watch any previous rog regular boots","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":205.76,"end_s":214.4,"text":"yeah he's seen everything oh so he was just messing with you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":211.519,"end_s":218.959,"text":"because i put everyone on the spot oh boy you're supposed to study up","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":218.0,"end_s":223.519,"text":"whoa faith in my brother he can do it he can","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":221.2,"end_s":227.68,"text":"do it all right so let's find out if he can do it what parts do you think we","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":225.12,"end_s":230.959,"text":"need first well i think we need a table first","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":228.64,"end_s":235.68,"text":"yes yes and the livestrong bracelet yeah let's move on from the verge edition of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":233.12,"end_s":239.36,"text":"building a pc we also need a case we do have a case okay actually we have","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":237.439,"end_s":243.92,"text":"the rd strix helios that's a pretty freaking awesome case uh but what do we","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":241.92,"end_s":247.68,"text":"actually need to do first open the motherboard and put it in the case put","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":245.599,"end_s":252.239,"text":"it in the case put it in the case i always recommend plugging your","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":249.76,"end_s":258.639,"text":"components in and powering your system up once outside of the case to verify","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":255.92,"end_s":261.84,"text":"that the system posts or powers on and outputs to a display","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":260.32,"end_s":267.199,"text":"open the motherboard you know what i'm gonna let you do it your way okay this","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":264.32,"end_s":271.919,"text":"is like burger king building right have it your way","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":268.96,"end_s":277.36,"text":"and if it's all a sparking you know pilot mangled mess at the end well that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":274.96,"end_s":282.16,"text":"was your way hey it's your build your way he's definitely high energy and that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":280.0,"end_s":285.759,"text":"that was exactly the way i expected it to be you can tell when he's being","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":284.16,"end_s":289.6,"text":"sarcastic or cutting it's it's really just for the humor of it so there there","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":287.52,"end_s":293.12,"text":"was no problem with that for me oh hold on hold on this is actually this","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":291.52,"end_s":299.6,"text":"is kind of a two this is kind of a two person left here but check this out","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":295.6,"end_s":301.44,"text":"so you actually said in your request","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":299.6,"end_s":305.36,"text":"that you would like something portable now yes we didn't get you something","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":303.12,"end_s":310.24,"text":"particularly light that's all right but we did get you something with","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":307.44,"end_s":315.28,"text":"carrying straps excellent sweet right that's awesome all right so the cheapest","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":312.639,"end_s":319.039,"text":"fastest easiest way to ground yourself","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":317.6,"end_s":324.479,"text":"protecting your hardware from electrostatic discharge","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":321.039,"end_s":326.24,"text":"is to touch a grounded object right so","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":324.479,"end_s":329.52,"text":"what we're going to do is we're going to unbox our power supply","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":330.08,"end_s":338.56,"text":"throw our power supply on the table and plug it in and the case the power","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":335.6,"end_s":343.759,"text":"supply is grounded so so every time you move around or rustle too much or","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":341.52,"end_s":347.84,"text":"whatever else if you periodically touch that you should be fine you should be","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":345.919,"end_s":351.6,"text":"fine awesome i wouldn't manufacture microprocessors with this method sure","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":350.24,"end_s":354.56,"text":"should probably be wearing a full bunny suit in that case but for just building","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":353.52,"end_s":359.6,"text":"a computer this is a simple easy way to make it a little safer cool thank you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":360.0,"end_s":363.36,"text":"you don't have to hold it yeah","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":363.919,"end_s":370.4,"text":"thank you question for you yeah is there anything","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":368.08,"end_s":376.24,"text":"that you'd like us to etch on your side panel window","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":372.24,"end_s":377.6,"text":"like a gamer tag or like a favorite meme","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":376.24,"end_s":383.199,"text":"or i think the Linus tech tips logo would be cool Linus tech tips logo","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":381.68,"end_s":388.24,"text":"you know you don't have to suck up you already won yeah keller flame is my","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":385.52,"end_s":392.88,"text":"usual gamer tag keller flame yeah okay i'm gonna ask you to send jono an","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":390.8,"end_s":396.16,"text":"email with the exact spelling and capitalization you like for that you got","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":394.72,"end_s":401.039,"text":"it i think we can probably do that for you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":397.84,"end_s":403.12,"text":"you found stickers i found stickers","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":401.039,"end_s":406.84,"text":"those are pretty cool stickers these i think are the mounting screws","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":404.96,"end_s":410.96,"text":"what about these these mount something else so when it comes to screws we've","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":408.96,"end_s":415.6,"text":"got mounting screws and mounting other mounting screws yes careful","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":413.68,"end_s":419.039,"text":"so when you're yeah okay that technique was not bad so when you're repositioning","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":417.199,"end_s":422.4,"text":"the motherboard it's very very important that you're not just sliding it around","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":421.12,"end_s":426.88,"text":"on the standoffs in there you want to kind of lift it up while you're repositioning it otherwise it'll scrape","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":425.039,"end_s":430.56,"text":"the back of it nice feature of this case it's got a little nub in there mm-hmm so","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":428.8,"end_s":433.44,"text":"some of these won't accidentally slip around would you like somewhere to put","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":431.919,"end_s":436.8,"text":"those screws that would be awesome thank you this video is not brought to you by","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":435.039,"end_s":441.44,"text":"ifixit.com but i still recommend their hardware boom right there","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":440.0,"end_s":445.199,"text":"see now they won't move too much","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":443.599,"end_s":451.84,"text":"thank you i'm not here because i'm judging","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":448.4,"end_s":451.84,"text":"but you are just a tiny bit","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":452.479,"end_s":459.599,"text":"oh i'm not done with that one far too loose i can show you a little trick to go a bit faster now that i'm impatient","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":457.52,"end_s":464.68,"text":"so this has a knurled thing here on the ratchet you just go","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":461.44,"end_s":464.68,"text":"like that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":464.8,"end_s":469.44,"text":"and now and","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":469.44,"end_s":476.08,"text":"now probably should mount the CPU sure","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":473.919,"end_s":480.56,"text":"think of it this way if you break the CPU","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":478.479,"end_s":484.72,"text":"you will have no fewer cpus than you walked in here with that's a good point","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":482.639,"end_s":489.36,"text":"so you have nothing to lose really except everything that we're giving you","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":486.8,"end_s":493.84,"text":"there it is there it is i know it goes there oh yeah now there's a couple of","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":491.599,"end_s":499.68,"text":"things we need to know to install a CPU one is where's the golden triangle","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":497.759,"end_s":504.24,"text":"the quest of the golden triangle i'm serious find it yeah","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":501.28,"end_s":507.919,"text":"um it would be right here that is an AMD logo i'm going to need a triangle sir so","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":506.96,"end_s":513.68,"text":"that piece of the arrow is not there no i'm sorry it's also not golden right","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":512.32,"end_s":518.719,"text":"right there ah there yeah it was a difficult question yeah yeah so you have to find","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":516.64,"end_s":523.2,"text":"the corresponding triangle on the CPU socket that is really small and really","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":521.2,"end_s":526.64,"text":"hard to see so i'm going to do it once and then i'll let you do it after okay","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":524.64,"end_s":530.0,"text":"okay we hold the CPU by the edges of the heat spreader that's why there's these","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":528.0,"end_s":534.8,"text":"little indents in the packaging cool then we line up the triangle with the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":532.24,"end_s":540.16,"text":"triangle we insert it with no force whatsoever this is called a zif socket","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":537.6,"end_s":542.959,"text":"zero insertion force so you can see i'm not inserting it it's just falling into","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":542.0,"end_s":547.92,"text":"place and we lock the ARM cool now your turn","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":545.92,"end_s":552.0,"text":"no pressure but this is kind of the moment where you can really screw this","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":549.839,"end_s":552.0,"text":"up","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":553.44,"end_s":556.56,"text":"you were so close","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":558.32,"end_s":565.36,"text":"all right that's it your CPU is installed i'm groping in the dark here so anything","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":563.04,"end_s":567.76,"text":"i do after this is guessing oh groping in the dark you say","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":566.72,"end_s":572.32,"text":"right so i would probably","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":571.36,"end_s":576.8,"text":"go with the memory next sure","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":574.48,"end_s":579.6,"text":"it only goes in one way and you can kind of cheat because mine is already in the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":578.399,"end_s":584.399,"text":"right way give it a good crunch","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":582.48,"end_s":588.56,"text":"a plus crunch love it you're the captain of crunch now","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":586.72,"end_s":592.16,"text":"i don't believe you did no studying i think you were trying to set the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":589.76,"end_s":595.04,"text":"expectations very low where would you like to put it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":593.36,"end_s":599.2,"text":"that is the question of the day i'll give you a hint this motherboard from","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":596.64,"end_s":605.76,"text":"ASUS has support for two m.2 ssds he's like is this an m.2","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":604.0,"end_s":608.959,"text":"i presume it is it can actually even do PCIe gen 4 but that's not what we have","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":607.68,"end_s":613.279,"text":"with us today i don't see a port that seems to match that connector","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":611.76,"end_s":617.92,"text":"that's good if you did i'd be really worried that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":614.959,"end_s":623.36,"text":"your prescription was a little off right we need to take the cover off of it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":621.12,"end_s":628.56,"text":"this is another little bit of a tricky install so they've got a handy dandy","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":625.12,"end_s":631.279,"text":"little thumb thing here now this SSD is","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":628.56,"end_s":635.68,"text":"hilarious because it has RGB lighting on it which actually means it won't fit in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":633.68,"end_s":640.48,"text":"one of the m.2 slots down here with the like built-in heat sink and stuff which","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":638.16,"end_s":643.04,"text":"is great so you put it in a bit of an angle","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":641.36,"end_s":647.12,"text":"pop it in like that and then push it down and put in that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":645.04,"end_s":649.76,"text":"screw he knows how to use a screwdriver i'll give him that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":650.24,"end_s":655.44,"text":"michael thanks gonna go down here where the second demo","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":654.72,"end_s":662.88,"text":"is oh shoot dang what that's a different all","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":776.72,"end_s":783.36,"text":"aligned so this is a judgment call so you can have it here","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":780.8,"end_s":783.36,"text":"or here","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":784.16,"end_s":790.24,"text":"or here let's go that way because","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":788.56,"end_s":793.839,"text":"okay and at the far end they're less kinked yep okay","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":792.079,"end_s":797.279,"text":"okay so michael i'ma let you in on a little secret","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":795.519,"end_s":802.56,"text":"we are actually shockingly close to being done","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":800.72,"end_s":806.8,"text":"awesome we do still have some things to do though first we need to plug in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":805.36,"end_s":811.6,"text":"our pump and RGB nonsense","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":809.519,"end_s":816.399,"text":"for our CPU block so this is great michael i'm going to pass you the fan","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":813.279,"end_s":818.399,"text":"connectors from the radiator fans yep","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":816.399,"end_s":822.959,"text":"and you can go ahead and throw those on the hub that is built into our case","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":821.04,"end_s":826.959,"text":"that's a handy feature got it okay","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":825.2,"end_s":832.56,"text":"wow what do you want to do next","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":828.8,"end_s":835.68,"text":"so probably graphics card next cool","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":832.56,"end_s":838.24,"text":"all right here's your graphics card","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":835.68,"end_s":844.079,"text":"not falling for that twice all right ah yes that's the useful stuff so","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":840.88,"end_s":846.399,"text":"you're going to be rocking a Radeon 5700","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":844.079,"end_s":849.839,"text":"xt so you've got support for freesync you've got their new anti-lag mode","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":848.639,"end_s":856.32,"text":"support which is basically just a way of making it so that there's less delay between","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":854.24,"end_s":861.199,"text":"when your GPU draws the image and when it's actually displayed on your rate","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":862.72,"end_s":870.8,"text":"whether it's on a monitor or a tv that whole ecosystem has really exploded over","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":868.079,"end_s":874.88,"text":"the last few years and of course because you've got this beef-tastic","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":872.72,"end_s":878.8,"text":"strix cooler on it you can actually run at zero decibels when you're not","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":876.959,"end_s":883.88,"text":"actually gaming or in some cases even under very very light gaming loads wow","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":884.48,"end_s":889.76,"text":"well are you going to put it in oh okay","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":887.76,"end_s":894.32,"text":"i actually wouldn't do that yet sorry i wouldn't you shouldn't do the","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":891.36,"end_s":898.48,"text":"GPU yet so we're going to need our aura terminal which we're going to power","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":897.04,"end_s":902.24,"text":"with this here adapter doodad","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":900.56,"end_s":906.32,"text":"so it's going to go like that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":903.76,"end_s":910.8,"text":"then we're going to get a signal to it with our usb connection here","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":909.519,"end_s":916.399,"text":"then we are going to plug in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":913.44,"end_s":916.399,"text":"to header one","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":916.48,"end_s":921.839,"text":"and run this to our RGB strips","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":924.0,"end_s":929.6,"text":"now because we've got plenty of cable management room on the back we can","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":927.04,"end_s":933.12,"text":"basically stick this anywhere that we want back here so we'll just chuck it on","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":931.12,"end_s":936.16,"text":"the back of the motherboard tray and call that good to go how about right","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":935.12,"end_s":941.6,"text":"there what do you think works for me okay michael hit me with what you think is","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":940.079,"end_s":945.44,"text":"next well it looks like we're getting close to the power supply","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":944.24,"end_s":949.759,"text":"let's do it so i know it goes in the back","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":947.519,"end_s":954.36,"text":"on the bottom cool probably need to take the screws out","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":950.88,"end_s":954.36,"text":"first cool","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":956.56,"end_s":962.16,"text":"so what are you gonna do next well i think it'll probably be pretty","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":960.32,"end_s":965.92,"text":"hard to plug cables into the back of it once i put it inside so i'd probably","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":964.48,"end_s":970.16,"text":"like to plug them in out here and then slide the power supply inside i like it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":968.8,"end_s":974.959,"text":"so go ahead and plug those into the back of the power supply any way you like it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":972.88,"end_s":980.16,"text":"all right inspection time not bad not bad your 24 pin is not","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":977.92,"end_s":985.36,"text":"plugged in okay other than that you are in great shape here now what","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":982.88,"end_s":988.56,"text":"now they go in there and trying to decide whether i think it's better to","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":986.8,"end_s":992.959,"text":"plug them all in and then slide it in or slide it and plug them all in","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":990.72,"end_s":997.399,"text":"i would slide it in and plug them all in all right time to play computer","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":994.399,"end_s":997.399,"text":"veterinarian","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":998.24,"end_s":1005.36,"text":"just pull ARM in there so is there a cage that stops it from","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1002.639,"end_s":1005.36,"text":"pushing in too far","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1006.16,"end_s":1013.12,"text":"am i holding it in my hand yes","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1010.32,"end_s":1016.079,"text":"okay so now it's time to power this thing up","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1014.24,"end_s":1019.759,"text":"you ready to plug in the 24 pin i think so so it's just like on the power supply","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1018.079,"end_s":1023.6,"text":"side except make sure you plug it in otherwise identical to what you did","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1021.68,"end_s":1027.12,"text":"before so this is a little tricky yep basically","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1026.079,"end_s":1030.799,"text":"on some motherboards you're going to have a four and an eight pin you can","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1029.28,"end_s":1033.6,"text":"plug them both in but you actually don't need to just the eight pins enough so","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1032.4,"end_s":1036.72,"text":"you're going to turn around a little something like that and then that'll go","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1035.52,"end_s":1042.48,"text":"in like that cool all right do you need any hints here or have you done this before i haven't done","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1040.559,"end_s":1045.839,"text":"this before but there can only be so many ways it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1044.48,"end_s":1048.64,"text":"can go in but i don't know what any of them are","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1048.64,"end_s":1053.36,"text":"all right so first we're going to want to remove this protective cover that","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1052.08,"end_s":1056.88,"text":"would explain why i couldn't figure out where it plugged in yeah and then now i","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1055.2,"end_s":1060.64,"text":"think you can probably sort this out probably does it matter which one","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1058.48,"end_s":1066.48,"text":"because it looks like there's two ah yes okay so your top one is going to run at","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1063.2,"end_s":1068.799,"text":"16x speed that's like ideal so what's","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1066.48,"end_s":1073.6,"text":"your intention with this gaming machine anyway so actually most of the games","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1070.799,"end_s":1078.799,"text":"that i play are with my brothers and family and friends so i mostly play play","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1076.799,"end_s":1082.72,"text":"games with friends i play a lot of it","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1097.44,"end_s":1104.0,"text":"all right do you want to go ahead and plug in the power connectors for the graphics cards","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1102.0,"end_s":1107.679,"text":"does it matter which one goes where it does not because it's in this case yep","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1106.48,"end_s":1111.2,"text":"well because they're both eight pins sometimes you'll have an eight and a six pin","speaker":null,"is_sponsor":0},{"start_s":1112.72,"end_s":1117.76,"text":"that was it do you want to see it turn on i michael's new rig michael stood out from the other contestants in rog rig reboot 2019 for doing what nobody thought possible creating his very own laptop it was terrible dude next time can you please stand out in a good way i'd do my best well that was the best i had that's fine it worked out for you so you haven't even seen what we're building for you at all no i will show you so michael where are you from it doesn't matter my name is michael mclaughlin i live in a small town outside of boston called bolton massachusetts have you ever built a computer before i haven't actually all right do you know what this is i believe that's the CPU that is the CPU you are going home with a ryzen 7 3800x that is an eight core CPU great for gaming great for video editing and lord knows you need it because your editing was not great on that video that's okay you made up for it in creativity i can't take can't take credit for that your brother helped you with that right at least you got a trip out of it it was definitely a collaboration between my brothers and i uh i did a lot of the scripting my brothers had various ideas about which pieces to do um so i couldn't have done it without them for sure yeah we actually had like a wall then we we put sticky notes on the wall with like ideas and like spliced the whole thing together and had a storyboard well my brothers and my cousin actually had a couple of friends they wanted to see more regularly so they started doing a weekly lan party at my cousin's house and i wanted to spend more time with my family so i started playing the games that they play so i had a rog laptop that i was using i don't even remember what model it was but i bought it on craigslist for four hundred dollars a couple years ago and a couple of weeks ago the power brick just died and then it didn't work anymore do you know what this is i'm guessing that's a motherboard that is a motherboard there's an rg crosshair 8 hero this has basically all the freaking bells and whistles overclocking crossfire support all that good stuff all right so we've got our power supply rog 4 850 watt platinum there was a cooler in there as well your graphics card which you did get and your aura terminal which honestly i don't even know what it is oh RGB lighting control very important you missed the most important it's gonna be pretty a data helpfully provided us with a one terabyte SSD and a two terabyte SSD which one would you like uh just kidding you get both of them what uh i think it's gonna be fun i haven't ever built a pc or really watched a whole lot of videos on how to build a pc but i have a general idea of like the sequence they should go in but i definitely don't know how to do it in the most optimal way so tell me something michael how did you prepare yourself for your build challenge today well i asked my brother who has a lot more experience with this kind of thing what i should do to prepare and he said you're probably best just going and letting them show you how to do it properly did you watch any previous rog rig reboots i didn't did your brother watch any previous rog regular boots yeah he's seen everything oh so he was just messing with you because i put everyone on the spot oh boy you're supposed to study up whoa faith in my brother he can do it he can do it all right so let's find out if he can do it what parts do you think we need first well i think we need a table first yes yes and the livestrong bracelet yeah let's move on from the verge edition of building a pc we also need a case we do have a case okay actually we have the rd strix helios that's a pretty freaking awesome case uh but what do we actually need to do first open the motherboard and put it in the case put it in the case put it in the case i always recommend plugging your components in and powering your system up once outside of the case to verify that the system posts or powers on and outputs to a display open the motherboard you know what i'm gonna let you do it your way okay this is like burger king building right have it your way and if it's all a sparking you know pilot mangled mess at the end well that was your way hey it's your build your way he's definitely high energy and that that was exactly the way i expected it to be you can tell when he's being sarcastic or cutting it's it's really just for the humor of it so there there was no problem with that for me oh hold on hold on this is actually this is kind of a two this is kind of a two person left here but check this out so you actually said in your request that you would like something portable now yes we didn't get you something particularly light that's all right but we did get you something with carrying straps excellent sweet right that's awesome all right so the cheapest fastest easiest way to ground yourself protecting your hardware from electrostatic discharge is to touch a grounded object right so what we're going to do is we're going to unbox our power supply throw our power supply on the table and plug it in and the case the power supply is grounded so so every time you move around or rustle too much or whatever else if you periodically touch that you should be fine you should be fine awesome i wouldn't manufacture microprocessors with this method sure should probably be wearing a full bunny suit in that case but for just building a computer this is a simple easy way to make it a little safer cool thank you you don't have to hold it yeah thank you question for you yeah is there anything that you'd like us to etch on your side panel window like a gamer tag or like a favorite meme or i think the Linus tech tips logo would be cool Linus tech tips logo you know you don't have to suck up you already won yeah keller flame is my usual gamer tag keller flame yeah okay i'm gonna ask you to send jono an email with the exact spelling and capitalization you like for that you got it i think we can probably do that for you you found stickers i found stickers those are pretty cool stickers these i think are the mounting screws what about these these mount something else so when it comes to screws we've got mounting screws and mounting other mounting screws yes careful so when you're yeah okay that technique was not bad so when you're repositioning the motherboard it's very very important that you're not just sliding it around on the standoffs in there you want to kind of lift it up while you're repositioning it otherwise it'll scrape the back of it nice feature of this case it's got a little nub in there mm-hmm so some of these won't accidentally slip around would you like somewhere to put those screws that would be awesome thank you this video is not brought to you by ifixit.com but i still recommend their hardware boom right there see now they won't move too much thank you i'm not here because i'm judging but you are just a tiny bit oh i'm not done with that one far too loose i can show you a little trick to go a bit faster now that i'm impatient so this has a knurled thing here on the ratchet you just go like that and now and now probably should mount the CPU sure think of it this way if you break the CPU you will have no fewer cpus than you walked in here with that's a good point so you have nothing to lose really except everything that we're giving you there it is there it is i know it goes there oh yeah now there's a couple of things we need to know to install a CPU one is where's the golden triangle the quest of the golden triangle i'm serious find it yeah um it would be right here that is an AMD logo i'm going to need a triangle sir so that piece of the arrow is not there no i'm sorry it's also not golden right right there ah there yeah it was a difficult question yeah yeah so you have to find the corresponding triangle on the CPU socket that is really small and really hard to see so i'm going to do it once and then i'll let you do it after okay okay we hold the CPU by the edges of the heat spreader that's why there's these little indents in the packaging cool then we line up the triangle with the triangle we insert it with no force whatsoever this is called a zif socket zero insertion force so you can see i'm not inserting it it's just falling into place and we lock the ARM cool now your turn no pressure but this is kind of the moment where you can really screw this up you were so close all right that's it your CPU is installed i'm groping in the dark here so anything i do after this is guessing oh groping in the dark you say right so i would probably go with the memory next sure it only goes in one way and you can kind of cheat because mine is already in the right way give it a good crunch a plus crunch love it you're the captain of crunch now i don't believe you did no studying i think you were trying to set the expectations very low where would you like to put it that is the question of the day i'll give you a hint this motherboard from ASUS has support for two m.2 ssds he's like is this an m.2 i presume it is it can actually even do PCIe gen 4 but that's not what we have with us today i don't see a port that seems to match that connector that's good if you did i'd be really worried that your prescription was a little off right we need to take the cover off of it this is another little bit of a tricky install so they've got a handy dandy little thumb thing here now this SSD is hilarious because it has RGB lighting on it which actually means it won't fit in one of the m.2 slots down here with the like built-in heat sink and stuff which is great so you put it in a bit of an angle pop it in like that and then push it down and put in that screw he knows how to use a screwdriver i'll give him that michael thanks gonna go down here where the second demo is oh shoot dang what that's a different kind goodness what are we gonna do with that so there's probably a cable or not so there's two cables that go to this and one goes to the power supply yeah cool i knew he studied i don't think he goes back here would you like a lifeline i would a lightest line go anywhere your imagination wants it to you just run a cable anywhere you want you can double sided tape it here or here actually i wouldn't put it there there's a lot of heat on the back of the CPU or here but where it's actually intended to be installed is here now what would you like to do probably the CPU cooler sure okay here you go that's not the cooler i didn't think so here's the real cooler thanks how do you think it goes in so i know this goes over the CPU but i we need some thermal paste to make the thermal uh link better ah that's okay it has thermal paste on it already all right with the pad yep cool these have to come off because it's gonna go on these screws not bad i like it okay so how important is it to you that the logo is right side up on your CPU cooler uh there's only one correct answer it's not important to me that is not the correct answer all right now i have a special job for you i'm ready uh i need you to get out that baggie of hardware from the cooler box that i said we didn't need and grab the big thumbnuts they go all the way until they stop nice see how much better is that now that the rog logo here here and here are all aligned so this is a judgment call so you can have it here or here or here let's go that way because okay and at the far end they're less kinked yep okay okay so michael i'ma let you in on a little secret we are actually shockingly close to being done awesome we do still have some things to do though first we need to plug in our pump and RGB nonsense for our CPU block so this is great michael i'm going to pass you the fan connectors from the radiator fans yep and you can go ahead and throw those on the hub that is built into our case that's a handy feature got it okay wow what do you want to do next so probably graphics card next cool all right here's your graphics card not falling for that twice all right ah yes that's the useful stuff so you're going to be rocking a Radeon 5700 xt so you've got support for freesync you've got their new anti-lag mode support which is basically just a way of making it so that there's less delay between when your GPU draws the image and when it's actually displayed on your screen um you've got support for free sync so if you want to run variable refresh rate whether it's on a monitor or a tv that whole ecosystem has really exploded over the last few years and of course because you've got this beef-tastic strix cooler on it you can actually run at zero decibels when you're not actually gaming or in some cases even under very very light gaming loads wow well are you going to put it in oh okay i actually wouldn't do that yet sorry i wouldn't you shouldn't do the GPU yet so we're going to need our aura terminal which we're going to power with this here adapter doodad so it's going to go like that then we're going to get a signal to it with our usb connection here then we are going to plug in to header one and run this to our RGB strips now because we've got plenty of cable management room on the back we can basically stick this anywhere that we want back here so we'll just chuck it on the back of the motherboard tray and call that good to go how about right there what do you think works for me okay michael hit me with what you think is next well it looks like we're getting close to the power supply let's do it so i know it goes in the back on the bottom cool probably need to take the screws out first cool so what are you gonna do next well i think it'll probably be pretty hard to plug cables into the back of it once i put it inside so i'd probably like to plug them in out here and then slide the power supply inside i like it so go ahead and plug those into the back of the power supply any way you like it all right inspection time not bad not bad your 24 pin is not plugged in okay other than that you are in great shape here now what now they go in there and trying to decide whether i think it's better to plug them all in and then slide it in or slide it and plug them all in i would slide it in and plug them all in all right time to play computer veterinarian just pull ARM in there so is there a cage that stops it from pushing in too far am i holding it in my hand yes okay so now it's time to power this thing up you ready to plug in the 24 pin i think so so it's just like on the power supply side except make sure you plug it in otherwise identical to what you did before so this is a little tricky yep basically on some motherboards you're going to have a four and an eight pin you can plug them both in but you actually don't need to just the eight pins enough so you're going to turn around a little something like that and then that'll go in like that cool all right do you need any hints here or have you done this before i haven't done this before but there can only be so many ways it can go in but i don't know what any of them are all right so first we're going to want to remove this protective cover that would explain why i couldn't figure out where it plugged in yeah and then now i think you can probably sort this out probably does it matter which one because it looks like there's two ah yes okay so your top one is going to run at 16x speed that's like ideal so what's your intention with this gaming machine anyway so actually most of the games that i play are with my brothers and family and friends so i mostly play play games with friends i play a lot of multiplayer games to spend time with people i actually want to hang out with right so basically you're just not any good there's that you're you're afraid to play online no that's fine that's fine i get it i get you look the bottom of the food chain needs people to populate it all right do you want to go ahead and plug in the power connectors for the graphics cards does it matter which one goes where it does not because it's in this case yep well because they're both eight pins sometimes you'll have an eight and a six pin that was it do you want to see it turn on i really do well let's hope you put it together right then i don't know if we ever actually went through this but you are not just taking home a gaming system you are also taking home a complete set of gaming peripherals including this 144 hertz freesync gaming monitor so we're going to set up the whole thing so your first gaming experience on your new rig is going to be as it's all going to be together oh this one has that fun feature where it's got a little led in the bottom and you put a little lens in here and you can like draw a smiley face or whatever you want on the bottom of it and it'll project it onto your desk you know things the gamers want it's also curved okay moment of truth time you ready sure okay last test you gotta find the power button believe it's straight here he doesn't know this but if you can't turn it on he doesn't get to keep it ah he wins so we've got our 3800 x 8 core processor 32 gigs of RAM uh our m.2 drive is showing up our SATA drive is showing up everything here looks pretty flipping exactly as we'd expect let's throw on our docp which runs our RAM at 3600 megahertz we're gonna reboot that baby so while we're installing Windows then uh what game is it that you wanted to try you know when you when you fire it up for the first time i've been looking forward to borderlands 3. okay i think that could be arranged let's get some borderlands reloaded on here so here we are we're almost at the point where you're ready to experience it but there's a minor detail we have to sort out first what's that no i'm kidding alex bring it in your panels are ready that's awesome oh wow really seriously alex what does this say family is for life gaming is forever keller flame k so have you actually played borderlands 3 yet not at all okay have you played on a high-end modern gaming rig at all no have you ever tried a high refresh rate monitor no wow this is going to be something else give it a shot dude any first impressions it's so much smoother than i'm used to well i can actually track them when they're dodging instead of having to wait for them to stop moving that's kind of nice what a technological innovation the computer works and that's really the bottom line question i think that means we did a good job when you look in from the motherboard side seeing the three rog logos there i think that's really cool uh the RGB is nice because you can then see stuff like that but but having the unified branding instead of kind of a hodgepodge of whatever you could throw in there is really cool so what's the most graphically intensive game you can run on your current rig um probably ghost recon um yeah right wild lands i think that's the previous one yeah and i'm playing it on low settings so uh and it's and it's even on low setting it it's definitely does this look a little better this is so much better if i played ghost recon with this computer i would be a lot better because i can actually see things and then try to shoot at them instead of just shoot blindly into the blur it is way beyond what i thought i was going to be getting it's so incredible and the video that it's able to push on that monitor and the monitor itself is just so far beyond anything that i've used to this point i don't even know how to like quantify how far ahead of where i was before it is it's just insane i just wanted to say thanks Linus tech tips and ASUS rog um this was a great experience i really enjoyed being backstage with the entire team and getting to meet everybody and interact with people that i'd seen online but now i get to know them as people huge thanks michael for coming out and participating in rg rig reboot this is it this is your new rig i'm so excited it's flipping awesome and hand built by yours truly i'm sorry and a massive shout out and thank you to ASUS for providing well everything the parts the experience uh the ticket out here and just generally being all about supporting the gaming community and doing this now three years in a row so you're gonna find the link to where you can find all the greatest use rog hardware down in the video description thank you guys for watching and we'll see you at the next rog rig reboot"}
